Has anyone heard of a dragster that was running here in the Texas area by Cyr & Hopper. Probably in the late '50s! The guys I've ask are all too young to know of it. It had a very short wheel base and 2 blowers on it. It sounded Awsome! Any photos of it? Peace, Chaz
I flagged Cyr and Hopper at the old Golden Triangle Dragstrip in Oldasmar, Fl in the early 60's. Single engine, as I remember. Alos I think, Bobby Langley out of Texas. Long time ago.
Ted Cyr & Bill Hopper were based out of the Escondido, Ca. area. 50's early to 60's era, quit racing in 63. Never remember them running a Chrysler engine in those days. They ran Lincolns for power and in later years ran up to a whoppin' 50% Nitro. At one time they were second only the Don garlits. Ted Cyr did field a rear engine top fuel car in the early 70's with a partner whose name escapes me. Ted also still had one of the old ch***is and restored the car to cackle back around 2000 or 2001. Cyr & Hopper were certainly to be respected at any race they ran back in the day. Bobby Langley was Everman Texas based (Suburb S.E. of Ft. Worth) Bobby and Ruth are getting on in years but are doing very well. I see them at our old Times Reunion every year. Bobby quit racing in 1968. Two of his old cars are also cackling these days, Scorpion 1 (repop) and Scorpion 5 (original found and restored) by a member of this board. Scorpion 6 was the last of the breed. 408 AA/D
