I will be putting my Rambler on air, I already know how to do the front bags, but I'm unsure on the rear. I do not want to run air over leaf, can anyone offer me insight in to the proper way to set up the rear suspension? Pictures, would be great if you have some for examples. I want it to lay out to the point of the engine crossmember (lowest point) resting on the ground when dropped, maybe lower if I decide to raise the mounts, which is another reason the air over leaf would not work for me. Thanks.
I would suggest looking up Bass' 49 chevy he's done a complete walk through of how he did the rear links and bags.... excellent work!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202220 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=168229 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202209
I'm aware of how to set up a four link on a frame, but my issue is the fact that I have no frame. Would that not completely change what needs to be done or am I missing something simple? Before someone suggests, no, I will not be putting a frame under the body.
check out air ride technologies site. They make kits for all cars. Im not saying to buy one of their kits, because i think any decent fabricator could build it. But go look and see they should have some photos of their kit for that car. you could take their ideas and engineering and use it.
How about just lowering the car and driving it that away and then you won't have to worry about airbags. It has always worked for me.
If you dont want to run leafs then I would suggest running a ladder bar setup. For the air bags you will need to mount the bag where the body is reenforced. On unibody cars you can see the body is formed in a frame like pattern. In the wheel well you should have bump stops - that whole section will be reenforced. Another way to do it is to make brackets that cover a large section of the floor to distribute the weight over a larger area preferably in your fender wells. The floors in unibodys are not that weak, but to be safe mount like a 10 in plate on the area the larger you can go the better. good luck hope this helped.
65 Rambler?? Coils in the back already, BUT it should have a torque tube rear end that ties into a yoke at the tailshaft of the trans. Will this cause trouble with bags???
