Hello guys , I'm in the process of channeling the body on my 29 5wd coupe. Last night i removed the floor and relocated the front cowl mounts . The question is how far do i go? right now i ran a straight edge across the bottom of ch***i and laid the body on that so now the bottom of the doors are even with the bottom of the ch***i . now i have the ch***i at level and the body at level should i drop the front more ? or keep it level? need so input or pics iv'e been through a mess of mags and it's hard to tell how far they channeled . One more ? when making the floor is the body soild bolted to the top for frame rails or should i use body mounts? here are some pics before and now ! thanks in advance
Matter of personal taste. Look back at the old days, east coast vs west coast. Personally I like the bottom of the body to be even with the bottom of the frame on a channeled car, but I have the remains of an old '50s east coast '30 roadster, on it the body is channeled about 6" below a '32 frame, and I'm going to leave it that way, even though the body is welded to the frame. I also like to have a cushion between the body and frame, or body mount if not bolted thru the frame. I used to cut out pieces of an old tire, sidewall, but now I have a broken round baler belt for my supply stash, basically same thing. Do whatever is visually pleasing to you. Very nice looking car, channeled or not!
Its all up to you and your taste, there are no rules. Other than spelling, its Ch***is, the last s is silent. Do your self a favor too and loose the wheels and put something nice on there! Doc.
