Congratulations!!! When I was reading your tech thread, I thought to myself "geez i could do this too!" Have fun with the new toy!!
Well deserved ! It's all about the details, like the way the surface is finished it looks like that ceramic header coating ! Good Job !
COOL! I just spent some time on the phone with John (the winner). Could not ask for a nicer guy, very humble and very appreciative. It's nice to see people like him win our contests. Thanks again John and let's see some pictures of the new brake in your shop!
ok when does he become an ALLIANCE VENDOR for these.. lol Ill put my order in after I get my ever elusive Model A project someday. Congrats and AMAZING
He raised the bar on what will be expected on Tech Weeks to come. Well deserved. Baileight deserves a big thank you for putting up the greatest prize ever.
Awesome!! Congrats for a great tech piece and a BIG thank you to Baileigh!!!! You can be sure that when I need an additional tool......I will be buying from Baileigh.
By far one of the best Tech theads I've seen. Flthh31 obviously has skills, but what made it a winner to me was the way that he presented it. Pictures and all, you know. Sort of like a Denise report, only instead of feeling that you could have "been there", it was an "I could do that" feeling. Very well done and I think that your choice of a box/pan brake was a wise one. Once you find out how much time it saves you, you'll wonder how you ever did without one. Thanks to Ryan and Shane. Without them this wouldn't have happened.
I was thinking the same thing, kudos to everyone that submitted an artical I really enjoy reading them and getting more ideas for future projects. Now I have my second wind so I can finish my interior up and sell the hot rod so i can get started on my next project! And thanks again for the great tech week(s)!!!
Congrats, it really was a nice job and well presented. But how about this, he is in first place and lives in Erie, Pa. I came in last place, and I am formerly from Erie, Pa. I should win something to shouldn't I? Well probably not, but I am honered just to be in the top seven. Kinda like being in the great 8 Riddler compe***ion!
Congrats flthd31 on one of the best jobs that I have seen on producing a tech article that I have seen. I will admit that I did think that building a frame this complex was a bit beyond what many folks on the board could do but it should inspire many others to get out in the garage and build their own frame instead of going another route. Now the rest of us have to wait and maybe not so patiently to see what you come up with next.
Congrats on a job well done, and a really good presentation - I look forward to more. Just goes to show what can be achieved when you put your mind to it - and a big bunch of talent! I thought there were some excellent entries this go around. Props to the sponsor also.
I'm kind of a new guy around here but I got to say that was just an amazing job. What a well deserved winner. There are a bunch of really talented people around here sure. Congrats !. Ed
Congrats. I voted for you even though it was a hard decision. There were many great posts in this tech week. The winner of this round was very deserving. You workmanship and the way it was presented was awsome. I had a feeling as soon as I read through that post that it was going to be the winner. Congrats again, enjoy the hell out of that brake.
Wow... Prizes ,fame ,instant list of new friends , .... And a chicken dinner,... Ain't this place the cats ***
Who said FNG's are idiots? OOPS...that was me!!! LOL..... Congrats! That was my favorite one too...nice work!
I voted for you also, awesome work and your pics were very clear and detailed. Nice posts.I feel that Baileigh inc should get a huge thanks also. I think it was awesome that a company would support tech week and award the winner a piece of equipment. A lot of companies are in trouble or worried and these guys stepped up to the plate big time. I am just a member here, just a regular guy, but I feel Baileigh inc deserves a huge thank you and I hope they are here for a long time.
Yup, this was my pick also. Kudos to Bailiegh for their sponsorship, and congrats to flthd31 for a well- deserved win. This is exactly what I love about this hobby/ sport/ whateveryawannacallit. Seeing owner- built cars, built by guys with creativity, ingenuity and skills developed through practice. And to those who think a project like this is beyond them, the ideas presented in that thread can be applied to other areas of car construction too. I really like the idea of whittling a piece of square tube into a hammer form, then forming heavier gauge material over it. And flthd31 obviously has some serious woodworking skills also. Beautiful job on the canoe too. (Why not a carved yoke in the centre thwart for portaging?)
Congrats flthd31, awesome work and a well deserved win, glad to see the prize went to a fellow PAer. Now I know where to go when I need to use a box break. And thanks Bailiegh you're a winner as well in my book.
This got my vote too. Although it might be more intense for someone with limited resources. The presentation was great. Lots of good ideas came out of this tech week.
Congrats! But I gotta ask this, it's been eating at me since I first saw the post. how much do you have (with the steel, disc, etc.) in it, or them? Again, congrats, awesome work!
What an awesome tech week. Congrats to the winner, a well deserved win. The presentation and pictures were every bit as good as the actual project. As for Baileigh, this is stepping up big time, especially after the "warm" welcome they recieved with the "who do you think you are", "just coming here to sell us something huh, Newbie", "SPAM,SPAM,SPAM" , posts and the like. I thought, "so what", the guy is making us aware of some new products that could help a bunch of builders out and the prices were well in line with other offerings that are more familiar. I love this place more than I can express, but it sure has the potential for "shooting itself in the foot" than about anything I can think of. Thanks, Baileigh, for the prize and having a thick enough skin to "run the HAMB gauntlet." Frank
That was some really resourceful fabrication! And I'll tell you it is the way it used to be done, wooden jigs, hammer welding, and that beautiful finish. And real hot rodders were the only ones who could do it. The OEMs could not make a frame on the line that even came close to that degree of fit. Studying a mid '80's Buick LeSabre frame I was struck by how crudely it was done. On my Galaxie it really looked like a one arm Willie job, slag everywhere. I went to a rod shop a few years ago on the Snap-On truck in Arnold, MO, Anton's, and the older gentleman there was talking about how people just seem to be losing their desire for perfection in fit and finish. You nailed it! I don't know now if the fellow is still building, but I know he would be proud. To see that kind of craftsmanship is unreal. That is large scale jewelry!
WOW thats some great stuff! Every bit of it, the tech, the write-up, the stand-up offer from Baileigh, the voting and the winning announcement! All of tech week was fun and exciting for me...... every damn piece! Maybe it does set the bar higher for next time, so what? Personally I got a kick out of being able to share something with you all literally a couple days after my brain tumor surgery. And I get a bigger kick my favorite tech piece won the prize! I'm already planning my next couple articles for the next tech week, but if I get them done early I'll just share early anyhow! Thanks to all, that was fun
