It's easy Richfox, 1 liter = 61.023,744,095 cubic inches. I just say 1 liter = 61 cubic inches. 7 liters =?? Hmmm......6x7 = 42x, 1*7=x = 427 Easy! 6 liters = 6x6 = 36x, 1*6=x = 366
Theres your answer right there. A mild 350 will get as good a fuel economy as the 4.3 if geared right. Put a 700R4 behind it and enjoy it.
OK "E" is 260 cid. Now I know 4.3 is 262. but just a short time ago I would have had to do the math. Quick what's a "C" motor in CCs
I have a 4.3 262 motor in my s-10 blazer,tbi,700r4,spark plug gap set at .055,timing bumped to 5 btdc, weighs about 4000 pds gets 18 to 20 intown ,has 265,000 miles on it.When chevy v-8 first came out the were 265,this cruise allday at 70 with a 3.42 gear in gear in the rear, has a/c and power window and doorlocks. This would make an perfect motor for your car.
I'm building a '50-'54 Chev Pu and i'm going to put a 4.3 in it. I use my truck as a daily driver and with the price of gas I've got to do something. I could take the easy way out and just buy a new truck but who wants the payment! Talk to Dmarv here on the HAMB he can get all kinds of cool speed equipment for the 4.3 if you want to run a carb instead of F/I.
Just my two cents, but if you're thinking of swapping in a 4.3--going outside the box a anyway--why not go further, and swap in a diesel? Isuzu 3.9 Conversion? Hey, they came in GMC-badged Isuzu Trucks, so they're still Chevys, right? Okay, I'm reaching... I know, I know, the rules... Maybe I'm a bit odd--okay, definitely I'm odd--but I really dig seeing weird stuff under the hood.
I've put lots of 4.3s in cars that big, all owners satisfied! people seem to compare a 4.3 to a really small V8, like a 307, yet they forget the added weight of the engine itself. I don't think it would hurt the resale value, but like mentioned before, build it for you and what you want. If I were in the market for a '54 Chevy (or similar) the inline 6 or V6 would do more for me.
