I want a turtle deck(trunk) on my 26. Since I have more time than money I want to hand form it. I know I have to make a wooden buck or some kind of form. I was wondering if any one on here has done this before and can hand out some advice before I dive in to it. (Yeah I did a search and came up empty.) Also some good detailed pics of a 26/27 turtle deck would be great.
this isnt mine.. but its on ebay.. and I think I know the seller.. a pair of these would take you toward what your wanting. I have bought them for under 30.00 each the pontiac fender extensions have cool ribs.. look at 46- 48 olds and pontiac.. (chevys are too short) sawzall heres the estension on my olds and here's my friend phils pontiac.. ribbed for your pleasure.. my plan would be to use the extensions as the sides, and a flat (or low crown) panel for the center.. with perhaps a hand formed roll pan.. ps... note that the front edge has a cool radius that might fit the rear of a T roadster body..
the link above leads to guy with some seriuos talent....i'm going to town to measure one up teusday ...my friend scored a whack of T stuff but wants rediculous prices he is gonna let my look it over tho, i'll send you my info and help out.....i'm curious as to weather or not you can buy angle iron in a T profile vas the main ribs( run back to front) that have the nice curve are a T shaped cross section?????
Some time back Ron Covell did a series in Street Rodder Magazine detailing the building of a '27 style turtle deck. He followed the project from conception, buck building, forming the pieces and final ***sembly. I don't have the issue numbers handy but they shouldn't be too hard to find. Frank
