Just came across these wheels that are being included with a 62 Pontiac Catalina on Ebay. What are they, original, aftermarket or old high tech?
Here are the hubs. Notice the 5 original bolt holes on the inner surface.Seller is fomocoloco, item 2485835647.
Wow, In the middle of the night in the USA and still a good answer within 8 minutes.Thanks.I thought they were some sort of racing wheel.
They are rare , a friend of mine restored a 62 catalina 421 tri power coupe that had those on it .It was a black on black car with a factory stick and console guage package . He had to take the picture off of his garage wall since it was eatin him up that he sold it to buy a blazer. Yikes! swaZZie
Hey Slammed, that wasn't in John Risse's yard here in Ames was it? He had busloads of brakes and such that my father-in-law and I started to go through, but our backs were killing us about halfway to the back of the bus and we hadn't found anything too cool yet.
those look killer on any hot rod. i like them better then buick brakes. it just sux they are so rare.
Some old guy who lives by me has 4 of them. Just the wheels though. He tried to give them to me, but I didn't want 'em. Would they be worth picking up? LP
A little history, Back when NASCAR really was "stock car racing" if you ran it on Sunday it had to be available on Monday at the dealership, ie. factory part numbers. Pontiac was needing a heavier right front hub and better brakes and commissioned Kelsey Hayes to develop the set up you see in the pictures. They were used from 1959 to 1968 I believe and were available as an option on all full sized models. You usually saw them on the high end and performance cars.
