OK tried again and with the vac advance off and plugged she ran fine down the street, but as soo as I hook it up and rev it wants to die, must have something goofy there.
I had the same problem with my SBC where it ran fine 5 days before and then it would just choke out and I thought it was getting gas, because i could smell it and see it..... I re did all the timing, spark plugs were new, checked the fuel pump, basically went through everything and then concluded that the carb needed to be rebuilt. well that wasnt the case. Rochester carbs (i'm sure some others do too) have a type of porous-ceramic-stone-filter thingy right after the inlet ******. When the guy took that off, a bunch of **** fell off of it and it was clogged. got a new one of those stones and the thing started right up. Maybe you have something like that on your carb?
check the ground I had a similar problem on my first car.. I would have never found the problem except I went to touch the braided stainless throttle cable and got a nice suprize as it burnt my hand.. the braid was attempting to do the grounding. (just not well enough) I bet you have a loose connection from frame to block.. TIGHTEN all with a wrench and look for corrosion.. this could explain every problem you have had!
