You joined in July '05 and you have to ask? Apparently, you don't come here often. Visible mustang II ****s on any old car.

If you want traditional, fast, and reliable, DO put a sbc in it. He's /\ driving a ford focus and bashing sbc!!!

  5. Yes this is a very good place for info. BUT there are a lot of idiots here that like to stray the topic off course or just try to give advise on things that they have know clue what they are talking about.

If it weren't for the different builders back in the hayday of hotrodding or even now all the cars would look the same. Build it how you want it and enjoy it. If you can't take out your hotrod and enjoy it then why build it? If someone complains about something that you did your own way--- TELL THEM TO KISS YOUR ***--!!! Some guys around here don't like my thuck because it is different, WHO CARES... I call it a RAT ROD!!! But really I saved a ton of parts that would have never been used or s****ped. I built it like back in the day -- take what you can get, build it, drive and enjoy!! Again who cares what others think if you enjoy it!!

    Good luck on the build!!

As for my opinion-- I myself don't like IFS on Hot Rods.

I guess that's the point -- it's his car. But this is a traditional board.

If he WANTS a traditional car, he's in the right place. He'll get great direction, opinions, AND advice.

IF he DON'T want a traditional car... He needs to find a new board.

I'm sure you've all ready done this, but if not, how about checking out other A builds on the HAMB for tons of info on every aspect of the build you're undertaking. Some for example are, Dreddybear,--Portiadog,--Dreadman,--B*** roadster,--Rolf coupe build,--and Tindall coupe, Tindall is a teenager too and doing great work. Tons of photos. Good luck.

The real question to be answered here is "Do you plan on running full fenders, runningboards and aprons on your Tudor?".
If yes, nothing at all wrong with the MII/Pinto IFS.
If no, here in TX you'll hear someone say "Get a rope!".

Contact "55mercury" Sid on here. It sounds like you have a few stock axles, contact Sid and he'd be willing to trade you for a few axles to get a dropped axle. Then your in business.
I believe this is his website: www.droppedaxles.com

You're 18 years old and own that many cars?? Damn, you're off to a good start!! One of your next steps is to find a very understanding girl!!:D

  15. Hey there Dolbs4082! I congratulate you! I wish I had had the time, tools, skills and help at 18 years to tackle a car like yours. Took me years to start my current rod project and its a lot more fun than golf! I have watched Sid (www.droppedaxles.com) fire up the torch and drop a few axles - they stretch kinda like taffy when hot! He does great work! Also, take a look at the Speedway catalog (and all the others) and ya can get a lot of info and parts for your I beam axle set up. Got most of my stuff there. I even used an A wishbone and split it using the Speedway weld in bungs, Ford style tie rod ends and hung them on the side of the frame. We are running a flathead with T5 ******. Kill the TV, keep asking questions and study the traditional oriented magazines. GO FOR IT!

  16. Not to take away from other H.A.M.B.ers who drop axles, but Sid did a kick *** job on mine. Actually, he has another guy do the "A" axles, Sid does the '32 and up. I spoke to him several times on the phone to make sure I got what I wanted, both super good guys to deal with. He custom machined my stuff so I could use '32 spindles and the cheaper kingpins, saved me a few bucks even with the special work.

I gave $550 each, I believe, including core charge, and even got lucky, he had another customer deliver them within 70 miles of me.

Hey, thanks everyone for your opinions. And i really appriciate the pictures of some cars, they really helped me see what i should be looking for. And to anser the question about if i chopped the top with the body on the frame, no. I had a 1x1 steel tubing frame welded into the body to support all of the weight. i beleive it held the main structure fairly well. I had taken the body off of the frame so i could begin welding on it, and getting it ready for the body to be set back onto.

I have see people build a lot of things from scratch but I have yet to find anyone or information on how to make your own Model A axel.
