So ... just curious - how long did you lurk here before you actually joined up?

I think I did for about 3 seconds and realized it was the right place to be :p
I know tons of guys who still lurk- whats the reason behind lurking? Afraid the feds will come to the door (again...LOL) ?

    Years...
But I had a very long computer "acceptance" period.
I've fought these things every step of the way, and regarded message
    boards as, err, uhhh...kinda pseudo-communication.
Used to come for the info, though...and laugh at the drama.
One day, I just couldn't keep my mouth shut anymore.

I just figured message boards were for perverts and 12 year old girls.

I would never even open up the page after a google search led to the site.

  5. I joined immediately...but did not post for a year and a half. First post was an intro...I know...what a concept. I guess I am still somewhat of a lurker....nearly 1600 posts, but average way less than one a day.

I had to wait til Ryan added the message board. The site was cool but pretty quiet until then.

i was told about this site by Danimal, had met him from a chevy classified ad for 53-54 chevy parts..I didnt know it was a rough place sometimes..so i signed up..came on and thought it was fine to post a picture of my project..i was wrong..lol
i got my ass handed to me..and flamed and my 53 chevy photoshopped into a crunched up ball of flame on my front yard..
    real mature wasnt it?

But..you couldnt get rid of me that easy..I know i belong, even if im not loved..

Not only lurkers but some people who post quite often will never show a picture of their projects, cars or their garage for fear of being too public with the goblins coming to get em.

It took me a while to get the courage to do my Intro Post, probably a week or so.
Back then if you didn't do a proper introduction, you got crucified.

    ah, the good old days......

I did for a few years. I was into muscle cars and would check out stuff on here starting back in 1999 when it was just the Cheater slick picture I think....Man that was a long time ago.

  15. a couple of months of so , always figured the internet was for fags!i was gettin over a broke leg and a dose of roadrash and nothin better to do , actually found this place lookin for 37 chevy fenders .. found and bought the fenders from a HAMBer in chicago ..

  16. I joined and posted the day I found the place, and promptly got my balls busted (deservedly so). I'm still here almost every day. My wife lurks (she doesn't have a HAMB friendly ride) as does my dad and several others I know. I don't post too much, but read a lot, and when I feel I can contribute something I post.

I joined right away, but I hardly ever have anything smart to say so I only read for the most part. Waited about four years before I did my first post... here it is six or seven years later and I have about twenty posts...

I lurked for years. Never felt I had much to contribute until I realized some of these guys are real idiots and way off base. I could only keep my mouth shut for so long. All in all, it's been a great place and I have found a ton of inspiration and information!

    Thanks gang,
    Jerry

I came here originally to see a post about the HAMBsters that was brought up on another Board, checked in occasionally about them but it was 10 months before I posted anything, and another couple months before posting again.

Then youse guys sucked me in, what with your Belly Tank cars and cool Model A's :)

Now I want one (of each)......

Al (hafta finish my nostalgia funny car first) in CT

  24. friend of mine told me about the site and i joined right after my first surf
had been very wary of joining internet things before this site
even freaked at e bay, but i trusted the integrity of this site, because it looked so professional
most likely people need to get over the fear of getting slammed over something they post
i find it part of the fun and adventure

ya don't learn stuff and others don't learn from you unlees you jump in

  25. About a year... Message boards seemed kind pervy to me at first, then I started posting on the RRT and got brave enough to post here and signed up.

I'm still not sure if one of you fellers is going to come over and rape me one night...

I was a member of another message board that was dedicated to just one type of car, it was ok and all but I like ALL car brands and years and just not the one I own. I found this site and was lurking for about a year or so and then joined up.

Since then I have sold almost all of my Hot Rods and got more involved in collecting vintage Sewing Machines (alot easier to store and the neighbors dont complain when you bring another one home) but still have my 51 Ford Project that is going to be for sale very soon. I told my wife I will build one more car and that is it and it will be a 47 Ford tudor that I picked up a while back. Famous last words huh?

But this place is the shit when it comes to knowledge about Traditional style cars, and thanks to the HAMB I have met some really great people since I have joined.

Found out about the H.A.M.B. from a friend of mine in the model car club and then lurked for a bit. Finally signed up only to forget my password after not looking at the site for a few weeks. Password fixed and have been a general pest and nuisance ever since!

  28. I lurked off and on for about 3 years before joining, then didnt do an intro! Had nothing to say and my cat was a little OT. I was told about the HAMB from a scale model site in about 99-2000!!
I wont post personal details or pics on the net. I had security hammered into me for so many years that I find it hard to break away from. When will I post a pic of my car? Never. even less likely to see me.
    Doc.

I joined immediately, but am still lurking! I have a TON to learn, and this place is my library! IF I ever have something to add, I do, or, IF I have a question that hasn't been asked (rare) I post. Other than that, I have made a couple of deals for a projects here!
