Looks like a 46-48 ford coupe. I would say 1800 max for it, it needs to be completely stripped to get the surface rust off of it, and who knows what's up with the drive train.

  2. The rusty POS next to it was a fairly solid 41 Coupe that he let his son(35years old) strip and then leave outside.

    What a shame!!

i guess buying anything in non-running condition is a big gamble for anyone. on the one hand, short roof shoeboxes are getting pretty scarce; but on the other hand 45 long ones will get you something better than this. that 351 would be gone before the car got home. i don't mind missing trim on shoeboxes; i took all mine of my '51 to clean it up.

another issue: generally, 49's are not the best of the bunch by a long shot. they had a LOAD of problems with fit and construction that were pretty well overcome in the '51's.

2 bills. drop the windsor lump off at the dump for a few bucks in gas.

He's out of his mind. How long ago did he put 4500 into not anytime in the last decade I'm sure. He needs to take a look @ the economy and rethink his asking price!!

I would say it's not worth $4500 maybe $2000 tops.

I totally love shubox coupes but I'd offer him 1500....if he won't accept it thank him and forget it,
I bought this one for $500 and had to come up with some little pieces for the grille and patch the rockers, floors and get it running with a 350 chevy swap....
yeah, 15 hunnert if it has paperwork.

$1,500 tops. Walk up and wave the cash if you are serious, and if he doesn't take it, walk away. He knows now that you are serious and have $1,500. He'll come to you when he realizes his car is not a $4,500 driver, but a $1,500 project.

what a dilemna; make a friend realize his sights are too high, or miss out on a (admittedly ratty) shoebox. hmmmm.
if he'd take the 1500 he'd be smart AND you'd get a shoebox.
just be honest with the dude about what the issues are with the car and he'll probably deal. don't press the point, though, leave it sit if he still thinks its Barrett Jackson quality. (damn i hate those shows).

I didn't read this whole thread and not sure if you talked to him since but I would p*** or offer him $1200 and wouldn't go higher than $1500. Tell him to keep the motor and drivetrain and to give it to you for cheap. Sounds like you live here on the east coast near me in NC or SC where people here watch too much TV, BJackson and think they live in the west coast where rust is usually not an issue. I find old junk here with no floors, no bed, no engine and transmission and had people say they saw the same kind of car in California or BJ for $20,000 so they say $10,000!!! I used to think they were joking but they werent.
For $4500 you can have a running car. Instead with that you will probably need to invest another $4500 for new tires, engine and ****** work, rear end, patch panels, interior, gl***, etc. That isn't including paint and body work either.

Why do you want it ?Try to find another with the same done to it ,oh by the way it is a coupe not a tudor ,there is a difference its funny how its too much, when your wanting to buy but not when your trying to sell, anyways it is worth what someone is willing to pay.Iwould like to see all those 1500 dollar coupes with tunneled headlights, frenched tails and ariels too show me all those cars, sometimes you people on this board are full of yourselves and your knowledge of everything hot rod ,man do what you want to do maybe meet him halfway,or do some research see what its worth first.

id pay $4500, provided there is a box with $3000 in the trunk...

  24. Man, I got a 40 willys sedan I've pulled the body, boxed entire frame, added super clean front axle with disc & rotors (all new) recessed firewall 11 inchs, a ton of work in general.......and I only want 5k. Sheesh.....You can absolutely find a better deal on a better builder. Carl Hagan

Hell no I would not pay $4500 for it. Wave a grand in his face and tell him that is what it is worth the way it sits.

You guys are being really generous. I can't remember if I replied to this already or not, but that looks like its worth around a grand, give or take a few hundred bucks. And yeah if he wants the motor let him have it if you get the car cheaper!

That car just about needs one of everything, and it sure isn't the hot setup for a choptop!

I liked the above post that said to stay far away. I've made that mistake and paid the high price and you know what? it still chaps my *** . And I have no one to blame but myself for getting into the situation. When will I ever learn?!?

  27. Nope...too many out there in this condition for much less. buy in for as nice a car as you can...at 4500 you can do better.

All I have to say is that a car is worth whatever your willing to pay for it. Looks like most of us here are willing to pay no more than $1500, if that. :D

Thats a big ditto.. If you want it bad enough then it may be worth it but I would search for a while on that one.
