    Awesome thread and awesome project

The thing that appeals to me about using legit 2d doors......should the door ever need replaced you don't have to handcraft a new one. By building around an original piece you're guaranteeing a lot more interchangeability. Yeah you can do a lot of measuring during the lengthening and try to get it exactly like a factory 2D door, but there's a fair amount of risk if you're not a metal wizard.

Who sells them? I've only seen 2 door hardtop doors which would not work on a conversion like this.

waaaay back in the '70's some local guy cut down a 4dr to a 2dr but he just shortened the body/frame and used the front doors only. a sedan or wagon IIRC. i like YOUR work a WHOLE lot more!

Years ago, guys used to cut the whole back out and make it like really short. then add a raise in the front with a gasser straight axle. always thought those were kinda cool, but probably not good on the street.

Around here we called those shortened shoeboxes "Clown Cars". My ex-girlfriends cousin has one. It'll do one helluva wheelie, but it gets squirley above about 65-70 mph... Fun but not practical for anything.

  10. Didn't you get those that pair of doors you're using in this conversion from me? I like it!!!

Looking at what you're doing just made the stock price of the 4-dr cars I've saved go up. Thanks!!!

You're right, never saw those before. $600 each when you buy a pair too, that's not bad at all. Let the wave of conversions begin!

    You're welcome.

And it would still be cheaper to buy a good 4 door than a 2 door in the same condition.

  13. Unkie, looks like really talented work and the car also looks great ! Any full view pics of it ?

Thanks primerkid. The one pic is about as close as I can get to a full view.

The others are the new wheels and tires.

I ordered from Coker over a week ago and they not only haven't shipped yet, they can't tell me when that will happen. So I went and got $50 tires from Sears. They're good enough. I have to cancel the Coker order Monday. Total for the front wheels and tires is $203.

I'm also getting new rear leafs Monday. Take a look at that picture too. Might explain why the car was tilting. I thought it was the leak in the old tire.

No. I've been helping a friend of mine build his car. The '57 comes next.

Yes, it's me. I changed my username.

Yeah, inquiring minds want to know!! So, is a 4-door roof the same length as the 2-door roof or is it stretched a bit??

The roof skins are identical/interchangeable. Check out this link and see.

    Hi everyone.

We just got done moving from New York to Florida and I only got my internet back yesterday.

The project is basically done. Except for finish work on the rear doors.

I posted the whole project at the DuckusCrapus board.

    The thread is here: http://duckuscrapuspond.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2535

    It's 18 pages.
