A common mistake is the slant on the A pillar is shorter than the vertical cuts on the back. always step back and check your work (unless you're a roofer) before you start welding
the cuts on the front pillars are just preliminary, it will probably get another inch and a half cut off. I want the front to slant down more than the rear. It is easier to take more off than to put some back on. The windshield opening will also come down another inch or 2 after the initial chop as the front windshield is larger proportionally than the door window openings and will look off otherwise. Bud
when I took pictures of this, I was wondering how they managed to chop it more in the back than the front..... Now it makes sense, thanks for the tip noname!
skin that dodge! keep those pic's coming as you don't see these trucks chopped very often. or i should say "chopped correctly"
Getting ready to chop my 51.I have the same places marked out planning on taking 4 1/2 "s out. thanks for the pics.
I did it the old fashioned way, I took a side pic of the truck, printed a bunch on the printer and went to work with a razor and some tape, here are some before and after pix. Some things will change, but it gave me the flavor of what it would look like. Bud
Chop started, cut off the roof, dropped the front approx 4 inches, the back 4 inches, stood back and looked at it, cut off another inch and a half off the front. Now I kinda like it. I kept the inner brace intact that goes around the underside of the rear windows and just cut the vertical braces instead, it worked well. the first front pic is with 4 inches off, the second is with 5 1/2 inches off the front. I have more pics, but this gives the idea of where I'm at. The front windshield will still come down another inch and a half at least. Bud
Nice, i've got a 53 aswell... looks good with the chop, thats what mine needs. Just a question for you did you buy this truck out of tacoma, from a Ken Bagley by chance??
yeah, I found out he sold me some parts for my 49 Plymouth on ebay when I was building it. seems like a real nice guy. Got a smokin deal on the truck, so far I have made back double the buying price by selling off the parts I didn't need. Bud
I have a 50 and would like to do the same. The part that worries me the most is the door. It would be great if you take some detailed pics of how you tackle the door/side window chop. I may decide to tackle this as well. Keep it up and keep us updated.
The picture above looks like a clown car.. well the paint and red wheel combo anyway, good luck on the chop.
I agree, ya need "vision". look thru what you don't like and see what is cool. the chop and stance are cool.
I second that. Just cause you can't see it doesn't mean that others can't make it cool. Someday I will chop my truck too, except its a ford. This is what I love about the hamb, keep the pics coming.
those dodges definatly need the chop, the rear windows were chopped from the factory, and the roof was not!
I like the chopped pickem'ups when they have the right stance. IMO, make sure the stance warrants a chop. If the truck doesn't sit low the chop will look out of place. my.02 Looks good so far, Jerry
why is that? I've heard that before! Question? who decides what should and shouldn't? the owner or the forum? I own 12-15 vehicles and only three are chopped. it not that I agree with your statement I just don't have the time to chop everything. I'm trying to figure how much I want to chop my house. it would be easier heat in the winter and cool in the summer just run your own race...............Jim
