I had somethin funny happen at the shop today....A "kid" [younger than old dudes] Comes in and is lookin at my roadster project. He is OOh 'in over the Motor and as he works his way back he notices the painted STEELIES-&WIDE WHITES! He said:"are theses just your "rollers"?=He meant -I couldn't surely -,be gonna RUN the damned things -right?!! I laughed and said Yes they were my "REAL" wheels and tires....he really didnt get it....But then I dont understand the 18's/short sidewall 40's- he is runnin on his '68Impala either- so I guess we all have some funny IDEAS...OR at least it would seem so TO OTHERS! I wonder if these 18-36" wheels will have their place in HISTORY and be re appearing in thirty years as the wide whites and steelies are today?
Thats funny... i was just thinkin today... i got 20s on my daily driver 83 cutlass.... steelwheels and wide white on my delivery and 13x7s on my 63 impalla with switches.. does that make me weird or a poser????
I noticed a 64 red and white chev at the house down the street. walked down to look young guy has wallmart mag caps on it.I offer him 4 ss spiners i have for 80 .bucks.saya he liked them but could not afford them, told him i wasnt trying to hard to sell see me when he wants.Well i see the car 2 wks. later BIG ASS tire and rims 18 inchers he had to remove the metal between bumper and wheel well so he could steer.Guss he thinke its cool sets high as hell now too. I just dont understand todays young.
It's whats cool man, don't you old fogies get it? You guys are so unbelieveably un-hip. I hate having to drive around every day with 15"s on my "cutty" when all I really want to do is slap on a lift kit and some 25inch bling bling dubs. I would get all the fly honeys and bitches. Foshizzles...
i use to love the kids wanting the big rims when i worked in a body shop i would charge them $250 to take a baseball bat and roll there wheel lips to stop the tires from rubbing.kids today have no clue to any thing. most think a chopped car is a merc.
There's some dude that works at Checker's has a '59 El Camino, it had really horrible cheap chrome modular wheels on it. I was thinking about how nice it would look with some plain 4 bar hubcaps. I saw it two months later and it now has 20" blings on it, it looks like a friggin' giraffe fixing to go pole vaulting. Way to go dude. He probably laughs at my shit too. Oh yeah, if I had nickel for everytime someone asked me "are you gonna put the fenders back on?" I'd be able to buy Ashley Olson a Twinkie bar.
Eh... big wheels aren't my thang, but they have their place. http://www.pro-touring.com/featured_cars/Camaro/mark_stielow/The_Mule/stielow_69_front_on_stands.jpg *gasp* It's got a SBC in it too! Oh noes!
done right they are cool, like say jay leno's buick, it looks right! or muscle cars with slightly larger wheels can look good, it's just that we progressed too quickly from 17's to 26's. more people should be doing some bodywork to go along with the big rollers also, i would like to see some 60's rides slammed with bir wheels, but with the wheel wells radiused way up high, slammed but you still see the whole wheel.
I myself have a set of wide 17's[5spoke] for my [57 Suburban]....I just found it funny that he couldnt envision my steelie/wide white-tires and wheels as the "real" ones I was going to run! I kinda like the 17"-18" ones in "some" instances...Im just not sure I ever saw a car look any "better" with any larger than that on it-say 20" for instance........
[ QUOTE ] .kids today have no clue to any thing. most think a chopped car is a merc. [/ QUOTE ] I take offense to that I guess I see what youre saying, I see a lot of it, but dont let that account for every 16-20 year old kid out there, I know I'm not the only 16 year old on this message board. And I try to consider myself to have some knowlege, I have a clue!
