I'm looking for someone who sells ride height adjustable coil-overs for a Mustang II style front suspension. I know, not HAMB-like but that's what I have for now.

I don't want chrome anything just painted springs and shocks and a good price. I'd appreciate your recommendations on who to buy from and what brand they carry. If you know their cost, that would be helpful too.

    Thanks much,

The only ones for that application that I know of are QA1. I tried them on my '35 w/Must II, after a year of screwing around with springs...adjustment and the like, I finally took them off when they started leaking oil. I never got the front end to work decent until I used stock Ford springs and regular shocks.

The QA1s are under the bench where they belong.

  4. There are a lot of racing supply companies that sell coilovers for a good price. The trick is going to be finding any short enough to fit the MII suspension. Try Speedway, can't hurt...

I've got Aldan Eagles on the back of the Burb. Best price I've seen, seem to work fine. Have maybe 400 miles on them.

Thanks for the feedback, suggestions and comments guys.

Retrorod, when you said you "never got the front end to work "decent", what problems were you having? Shock or spring related? I realize that you were prpobably frustrated after a year of messing with them and they certainly shouldn't leak that soon but aren't the QA1s rebuildable to fix the leak issue?

Exwestracer, I had done some checking on race application coil overs earlier and you're right about the length / travel issue. Some road race stuff is close.

QA1 stuff is hit or miss if you got a good set they will last forever. I have pulled a new set out of the box and they were already leaking.

Shame really they bought a good company and rather quickly turned it to ****.

That is interesting Tinman. I'm curious is they are rebuildable the way that Koni's are?

llonning, I did give Art Morrison's a look and found Aldan Eagle, Strange Engineering and AME coil overs. The AME units are 1/2 the cost although I can't see if they are made for both front and rear applications. I'm checking with them now.

Yep rebuildable, but I would look elsewhere.

I know the guy that built the company they bought out. (Hal) First thing they fired him and his wife. Then they canned most of the tech and support people. Next quality went to hell. Oops what do we do,, we dont have anyone that knows how to fix it.

The problem is......for a MII front end you just can't stick any old kind of coil-over in that front end......no room. The QA1s fit the application very well but the bee-hive springs are short and not available in enough of an ***ortment of weights.

    Hey Guys:

I heard abck from Art Morrison on the AMEs and unfortunately, they are only for rear end applications. They did tell me that they have sold many of the Aldan Eagle units but they are $415.00 plus shipping costs with the spring. The larger draw back is that due to design constraints they only have 2.5&#8221; of total travel, less when you include the bump stop. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p> </o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
<o:p>Any of you know the travel on coil overs that you have used or researched?</o:p>

    <o:p>Thanks,</o:p>

Hal did the Vari-shock, Vari-struts for drag racing, Great product! The Shockwave bag shock combo is his, He stays busy and is a real good guy. Not sure on the Chris Alston thing, I havent talked to him in a while.

Edit: brain fade, yes Varishock is with Chris Alston, in fact we used the one of the first sets of the struts on the Cavalier we built. http://www.datinmanjay.com/alexh.html
    (sorry for the derail)

  16. I've got this same issue. I've used QA's before & have them on 1 car still. I like em, but to buy a set alone is half a grand. I don't really like that part. Carl Hagan

Call the guys at Romic 760-244-4478. Best coilover on the market and they can and will make the shocks to your specs. Ask for Mike or Roger.

Thanks again for all of your comments and suggestions guys. I'll certainly get back to Art Morrison and will check with "Romic" and "ARS". Once I have more, I'll reply.
