54 plym wagon need info

i just got a 54 ply wagon , may be 53, from a friend of a friend after an estate sale. had a 241 hemi now nothing. it is on a frame i think is a s10 . having always been against these things i havent tried to stay up on them at all, fast forward and i like this car and it looks like the ch***is would be ok , however the steering box is way out front and i think it needs either a rack and pinion or a vega box perhaps, any ideas on this or have you done it . if so what rack etc. the rear needs to be lowered a tad and im thinking de arch springs or have them reversed .. also need a grille bar for it and need both bumpers also ... post pic.s if you have any of these cars.

and i am going to paint it semi gloss tan with a burghandy flaked roof ,whitewalls and painted wheels with little center caps 477 inch bbc with a 400 turbo , takin out the dinky rear end and puttin a 9 inch locker in it , yes flaked, im 60 yrs old and dont get it but im gonna do it... let me have it ......................

You might be able to drop that body on a Volaire, or at least throw the clip on it. Paint scheme sounds ***y. I dig it, and second the photos!

thanks M/M since the ch***is is all just done ill try to use most of it. i usually build my own on the jig and use must II tubular if not a straight axle but im trying to behave and make this, one i can actually drive and not break the bank for a chang e. i think it will be a killer little ride myself, but then im and old okie guy hehe.................

 

i have determined it is indeed the original frame with a s-10 subframe job on it... sure looks like a dakota rack n pinion would fit? anyone know if it has been done ?

A flaked roof! What is this world coming too? Hehe. Just giving you a hard time Sam. Sounds like it will be a pretty cool ride when you're done. On another forum I visit, a guy put rack and pinion on an S-10. I might be able to get some info from him or send you a link. I say cut the wheel wells and throw an axle under it! i keep hearing that, I am putting my 477 rat in it , doing the mounts this weekend on it. should be well overpowered for sure...

 

well i got the rat motor and 400 trans to fit in it and crossmember built, now ill build stands for the mts and then headers and move on to the rest of this flower... here is how it looks sitting in it
