  3. Did it on a 51 Plymouth 3W. Major door hinge issues... Choices for us are suicide doors, or filler panels at the front of the window opening. I don't like the look of the filler panels.

    Hope yours works out easier.

    Exactly!
One of, if not the biggest thing people compliment on are the vent window's on my 53, still functional with a 5" chop.
I'm ***uming this is on the chevy you just chopped right?
It's NOT an easy task to make them work, but well worth the effort once your done. It was probably the hardest part of the chop for me.
They look cl***y and finish off the look of a well done chop..
I've seen them without, and for the most part they look unfinished..
    Thats only my opinion though...

Unless you have air, don't do it.

I like vent windows, whether you have air or not, makes a car looks finished. Without them it looks too billety.

On some cars I usta put my elbow out the window and my hand back in the open vent window and hold the steering wheel that way.
opening vent windows ****s air across a fogged up windshield and defrosts it (some) even if the heater is byp***ed...
    Vent windows are traditional!
On a lot of cars, the door hinges etc. will be in the way if you try to get rid of the vents because they didn't have to make room for the gl*** so they didnt.
Same with rear 1/4 vent windows on some cars. You can open them front and back in the rain and get fresh air without getting wet or wind blown.

I like driving with the window down and my elbow out the window. Cars without vent windows have more wind noise inside the car then cars with vent windows, even with the vents open. Took me years to figure out why I liked the cars with the vents better then cars without vents. Its the difference in the wind noise. Gene

I did it on a 51 Chevy for a customer once... almost more h***le and work than chopping the vent windows, and that is no lie. It takes a certain type of car to pull off the no vent window look...most of which are not hamb friendly. Leave them in and chop em.

I have the vent windows removed on my '51 Ford, for the simple reason I don't have the skill or time to make them.

I spent the better part of a day trying to form one, got pretty close, then melted the aluminum? hinge on it and decided to get A/C :D

That said, every time I drive it I fantacise about what it'd be like to have working vents windows, as it gets NO airflow inside the car without them.

If you have a choice, I'd highly recommend staying with them.

I plan on getting them right in the future, and have even more respect for people wtih a chop top that have them!

looks like a streetrod without them, in my eyes, without the vent windows, on a chopped car, well maybe on a stock car, but mainly on a chopped car, without vent windows it makes the door window opening look soooo long and out of proportion with the smaller quarter windows
not sure if any of that makes sense, but it makes sense to me.

also..how will you get in with your door handles shaved??

yeah, most cars from the mid 30s to the mid 50s have a "bend" in the door at the vent post, so you have to do some fancy bodywork to make them work right.

Earlier Fords didn't have vent windows but from '34 to '39 had a mechanism that had the gl*** move back so there was a "vent" at the front before rolling down into the door.
That's why the "B" pillars were so wide.
Did you by chance switch to a '39 type mechanism, or whole door?

Me Too! the one thing I hate about newer vehicles is not being able to direct air where I want it.

  27. We switched the doors. The 40 doors and floors were as well as quarters were all but gone. We put in new floors, located better doors, did the quarters and if you note, oh, I don't have an album here, we trimmed the rear fenders,
