Well after hunting and looking at cars I finely found something. Sadly its not hamb friendly but I thought I would post I got something. I ended up going with a 1966 mustang with a 289. So I will keep reading and maybe adding some comments here and there until i can save up for a cool rod.
Nice starter car. Work on it, develop or refine your skills, and keep your eye out for what you really want. Everybody starts somewhere, and that isn't too bad a choice.
I'm not big on Mustangs, but that doesn't matter. My thought is to not trying to make it something it's not meant to be.
Thanks guys for the welcome comments. I love the hamb but is there a forum like this for more muscle car I guess 64-72?
great car, enjoy it , make it pretty, maybe use it to step to the pricier older rods you are wanting.
Tell everyone here that you have a '64.5 Stang and you'll be in. Personally I can't ***** if the "rules" are bent here and there. Your Mustang is a perfect car to get going on. They can be picked up for a few grand and as long as the bottoms aren't falling out of them, anyone with basic skills can work on them. Anything that you need is available, as they are extremely popular cars to fix up. You have chosen wisely, good luck. Bob
Gotta start somewhere. Like was said above, dont make it something its not. Dont try to do it in the " HAMB Style". Early stangs are nice rides and hold their value pretty good. Use it as a stepping stone to get what you want. Ignore the tool bags around here who will dis you for not having a HAMB friendly car. Nothing funnier than an internet toughguy/knowitall. Use the stang forums for your mustang talk & the HAMB for your hotrod talk... Simple A quick search on google for early mustang forum brought this up : http://www.vintage-mustang.com/ http://fomoco.phpbbnow.com/index.php http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/cl***ic-mustang/ and tons more Good luck with the stang ! Steve
I like the early Mustangs. My first car was a 65 fastback and I've been wantting it back ever since I sold it in 1981.
Personally I don't care, as I own several late 60's/ early 70's fords, but some of these guys like to throw stones at anyone that puts up a post like this. So just trying to give fair warning. Just guessing, your kinda young, and as long as your working on an older car it's all cool w/me. We all can't afford what we really want w/the first old car. Hell, at 35 and after owning about 65-70 cars I still don't have what I want. So good luck.
To all that throw stones....what was your first car? was it HAMB friendly? For some it was...for alot of us we got what we could afford...for me it was a "free" (It wasnt free, I moved 25 yard of dirt and rock over a summer for it) 1979 LTDII with a police interceptor 302...hadda blown trans, ****py electrical system, no carb and no interior...it was a hulk...seeing as I got it when I was 14...I had two years to work on it to get it road worthy...and I did...and I learned.....and it wasnt a ricer Kudos for getting something old, you'll learn a great deal from it, alot of the tech thats here on the HAMB will still help you out with it....like the others said, improve it, and use it to get something that more inline with what you ultimatly want...parts are still plentiful and those cars aint rocket science... Good luck
Nice Mustang man, HAMB friendly or not, it's still a cool car. I've always liked the early Mustangs and always will. Turn it into a street brawler and have a blast with it. Those cars don't weigh very much and lay an *** kicking on just about anything when built right. Now go build up that high revving 289 and lay the smack down on some SBC's
Aint nuthin wrong with a 'stang just kinda too muscle car-ish for here, as the early ones go i really dont understand why, but i dont make the rules That said i barely fit in with my 64 camino that is gunna be 301 muncie 4spd, almost period correct 1968ish HOT steet car
Hey at least its American. Have a good time in it man and do what you want. Maybe you can make it a Rat Rod...ahahha just joking...just lower to fill in the wheel wells and put some era correct shelby rims (knock off for price reasons) make it sound nice and youre in...moral is Have FUN!
http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/showforum.php?fid/9/ These guys at the site above are a real nice bunch that know a lot about Mustangs, are p***ionate and very helpful and not nearly as sarcastic as Hambers tend to be. When you get over there, tell Dustyrelics hello
Wow I have to say that I'm impressed with the warm reaction here... could this mean we all are becoming enlightened individuals?
I like it... Great choice for a first "older" car. Easy to work on, easy to get parts, just don't hack it up and you cannot loose money. Enjoy it, cruise it and by all means, say it is a 64 1/2... Anyways, there is an entire thread with this type of car... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=222342&page=5 I like you enjoy the hamb, and wish I could bring up and ask questions on some newer (pre smog) cars I have, but oh well.....
A couple years ago I would have had some smart *** thing to say, but all that will do is chase someone away from the very hobby we are trying to preserve and make the rod and custom people seem like ****s. Duder. PM me. We aren't terribly far apart, who knows maybe in the future we could swap up something! C code 2bbl car I ***ume? have owned two 1st gen Mustangs. Best of luck with it!
'69 Pontiac Le Mans. So it wasn't HAMB friendly, but I wouldn't try and talk about it here either. And that was 28 years ago...
I have a Mustang also check out this site they will help you to no end with Mustang stuff! Trust me!! http://members.boardhost.com/MustangSteve/
Thanks guys for all of the friendly comments. Yeah I have owned a few muscle cars but nothing prior to 66. I am thinking of doing a shelby coupe trans am look but still undecided. The interior is actually spotless and got a great deal.
trust me your mustang is nothing to be ashamed of you will never lose money on it you will never have trouble getting rid of it if you get tired of it . its a great car drive it with pride
