I am going to raise the front end(old school look) on a 1962 Impala. Will use new 409 springs and 2" ball joint spacers. Does anyone know of a supplier for the ball joint spacers that will work on this application. Any info very much appreciated.
There is a guy selling them on Ebay. Keep in mind they do not help lift the vehicle but instead they allow suspension travel! I installed a pair in my 57 Chevy to gain upper control arm to frame clearance. The extra strong springs caused the upper control arm to contact the frame. The spacers gave it 1-2 inches of clearance.
Yes, The spacers lower the front end but allow more travel when you take off shifting the weight to the rear of the car. Mine were were made by Echo or something like that. I never had enough horse power to really test them.
My spacers didn,t lower my front end at all.All it did was move the upper balljoint up 3 inches allowing the clearance at the frame.
If memory serves me correctly the lower ball joint goes into the spindle "upside down" ala early corvette so if you put a spacer in-between the joint and the spindle it should raise the car. If so you'll also have to do something with the upper a-frame also as it will then go downhill a like amount. Al in CT
I had them in my chevelle, the front end was at least 3" lower. They help in the transfer of weight ,like stated above. my car lifted super quick even with the big block. They may work differently on different models though.
The only ball joint spacers I have ever seen were for the UPPER ball joints. They did not raise the vehicle but allowed for more suspension travel when using stiffer springs.A corresponding longer shock when extended was also required.
