History Gene Winfield Rocks.....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by A32Flathead, Oct 27, 2008.

  1. So 2 weeks ago at the CHRR I ordered Gene's book from him.....He wrote the invoice, put his phone number on it, and then autographed it....

Fast forward to today...Book arrived, Gene's writing on the envelope....Dedicated to me & autographed also.

If you haven't got it, buy it!

  7. that's cool...add that book to the Christmas wish list

  8. Gene did the same thing for me too at the CHRR. I hung the receipt on the wall and have been showing it off to friends, just received my copy in the mail today, autographed to me by Gene. I have to say Gene is the coolest person in hot rodding. If you're planning on buying the book, it's worth the wait to purchase it from Gene at a show.

Yea, I got the same thing from him at Detroit. He still remembers me driving him around years ago when I was 16 in my 55 Desoto. A year ago he offered me a job working for him showing me some of his 'painting secrets'. I just have too much going on here and I couldn't stand to live in the desert. But he is one cool man. I'll always remember him and our friendship will always be cherished.

While i was standing in line at Detroit Autorama this year I saw a "familiar" face walking toward us; then it dawned on me it was Gene Winfield. When he got closer i saw "Gene" embroidered on his jacket. He happened to glance my way and i said Hi Gene, he smiled and nodded back. The guy behind me in line had no idea who he was. Of course that guy had to show me pics of his '06 Z06. He did recognise Nate Pritchard (sp) from Pinks that walked by a couple minutes later. Inside i saw Gene at a table by himself cleaning things up. Seems like a nice guy. Of course George Barris had an entourage with him as he signed autgraphs.

I approached Gene at his booth at the Lead Sled show in Salina last summer and told him I wanted to buy something from him. He said, "maybe you should start with my new book". He autographed it to me and posed for a photo. It was fun.

Does Gene have a web site that we can order it directly from him? I would rather deal with the man than give half of the purchase price to a book shop.
    Doc.

Gene is not a computer guy. He has a few friends that walk him thru stuff but about the only way is to get a book from him would be at a show he would be attending, I know that would be tough for you. I would recomend buying one online, I think you can get the best price there and then if the opportunity arises and Gene shows up, you can get him to sign it. Gene and I have been best friends and worked on dozens of projects together and I'm still waiting to get my signed copy.

I purchased Gene's Chevy Dually pickup a few years back. It was School Bus Yellow with Purple Flames , he autographed the glove box door for me. He is a great guy. That truck now running around Southern Sweden somewhere?

What's the best way to handle payment for us Aussies. I've been wanting that book since it came out and if I'm gonna have it, I may as well have a signed one.

I love any opportunity to show this pic. Yokohama 2006.

Gene spent a good few hours over 2 days telling stories and showing pictures. Really a great guy and very humble.
