I need some tech ***istance on the Jeep shifter conversion. The transmission I have is a Ford 3.03 three speed from a 1968 Pontiac GTO (yes Pontiac outsourced the 3 speed from Ford to put behind the 389, if you did'nt know, it was called the Dearborn 3 speed). The tag on the ****** reads (HEG AF 013383) and the casting #'s are (FOMOCO C5ar 7008 or 7006 I cant tell if it's a 6 or 8). The shifter is from a T150 CJ. The problem I am having is the thickness and spacing on the shift levers in the shifter top don't seem to line up with the transmission. With the transmission in neutral, the spacing in between the shift levers should be 4", but with the shifter in neutral, the in between dimension is only 3 11/16". The shift fork toward the front of the shifter also will not fit around the slider as it appears to be slightly thicker and the spacing between the two legs of the front fork are 3 3/16", where the rear fork measures 3 9/16. In order for the front fork to fit it too need to be at 3 9/16" between the legs. Does anyone know if the transmission spacing on this Pontiac version differs from the Ford version, or if the shifter i have is the problem? Any and all help is appreciated.

Anyone? Also, do I need to notch the case for the shifter as described in the 4 speed shifter swap? Can't tell because I can't get the the front shift fork in enough to tell. Thanks!

Thanks for the links, I've searched both the HAMB and google relentlessly. I guess the key is to know if the spread between the legs of the fork are the same front and rear, if someone has a shift tower they can check, if the spread is the same, I guess the front slider is different in the Pontiac version. From there it may be possible to modify the shifter, or swap the slider in the ******, I don't know? I would hate to have to find a new ******. Hope someone can help. I seem to remember that there was a guy here on the HAMB that did this conversion on a regular basis and sold them on ebay, but I may be wrong?

Still searching. Anyone know if the shifter tower from a Ford truck would be the same? Thinking that might be my first best option, find another shift tower to compare to what I have from the Jeep.

Not much help but I recently put a T150 Tremec top on my Ford 3.03 ****** and all I had to do was remove the internal shifting forks, rails, etc. and it fell right on.

David Kee makes a jeep style conversion for the 4 speed toploader. Might want to try his web site. I know some of the ford 3 speeds with overdrive were similar to the toploader. Don't no much about the three speed you have though.

After comparing the Jeep shifter I have with a few other t-150 shifter pictures it appears that the shifter I have is correct. The recessed portion that the shift fork slips into in the 2nd-3rd synchronizer ***embly is too large for the shift fork to fit over. Could there be different sized syncro ***emblies based upon model or year, (or perhaps cause its a damn Ford transmission out of a Pontiac GTO that i want to stick in a 32' Chevy coupe. I'm desperately trying to build a pedigree!) I have seen reference to a guy in Detroit that rebuilds and does the shifter conversions, maybe he can help me. Does anyone know of him, and if so, have contact info.
