  1. You guys don't suppose hot rods are getting the same treatment as the "rich asshole in a Porsche".... People their own little class war see when they see "one of them Barrett Jackson, 'spensive cars" and fuck with them...

As far as tailgating is concerned, it's the late 19-25 girls on their cell phones (with no idea how physics work) who are the worst culprits.

I'm hoping these will intimidate a few, they look like they would hurt.

I have a 4x4 '97 Suburban with a class III trailer hitch that I leave in, that takes care of the tailgaters. :D

I hate passive agressive people, really, I just hate people (civilians I mean). They just don't get it and have no respect, so fuck 'em. I'm tired of them and have run out of patience. I won't be seen on the front page because I let the people "with something to prove" go right by, it's not worth my time or aggravation.

It seems to be the younger they are the less friendly they are. I'm in a college town and my truck goes 55mph max speed. I stay in the right lane and try to stay out of people's way. I still have the college boys cutting in front of me trying to show their displeasure...they come within inches of taking my front bumper off. Sometimes I feel like goosing it and seeing how their platic rearends will hold up. When I get out in the country folks universally like my truck and want to talk to me about it. We haven't taught manners at home or in school for the last 20 years...I'm afraid it's only getting worse.

Some people wave, smile and give a thumbs up and for the rest of them you just can't go fast enough so they tailgate and cut you off. That when I give em a blast with the twin stock horns on my 48 Dodge, that gets there attention. You got to drive defensively .

Underdeveloped emotional control mixed with feelings of inadequacey brought on by a lack of paternal nurturing and a little dick.

Most people want a reason the think that old cars are unsafe and shouldn't be on the road. I honestly think they get close in the hopes that there will be some sort of minor accident so they can back up their theory that old cars aren't safe.

i think they are getting close just to hope that some of the cooless will radiate to them, and by being close they too become cool..

I never figured it out.... when I drove my big ugly '79 Ford pickup, idiots would cut me off, brake hard in front of me, generally be rude.
When I drove the '97 Saturn, people would be decent and ignore me. Not stay away, but not start shit either. Just drive.

    One would expect the opposite.

Most people in Tucson seem to like old cars on the road. The '50 Burb runs smooth, quiet and doesn't pump out lots of noxious fumes.

Biggest drawback to driving a nice old car is you can't pick your nose in traffic without being noticed!

Out here not too many A hole drivers per se. They just want to check out the shoebox. If they tailgate brakelights first, then I hit them with the flamethrowers. They back off real quick...

I drive a 31/A coupe. On weekdays during rush hour I'm pretty much ignored. That took some getting used to at first, I mean, you don't see those everyday. I can't say that everyone is out to get me. That being said I do run across the occasional jerk. The worst are the under 30 females on cell/ipods who dont notice ANYTHING.

Its totally different on weekends. People smile and wave, lots of thumbs up, ect. Makes it hard to be in a bad mood.

Here in Buckeye land, I have noticed nothing but positive... When I'mdriving my daily Ranger 4X4 no one pays attention... when driving the wagon, people love it. My wife thought I was nuts when it showed up, but after driving with me she thinks its cool...

One thing I HAVE noticed... family outings are more fun... The trip there is part of it all...

With the HellRaiser, some days I wish I could get away with having some of those spokes on the wheels like was on that chariot in that race in the Ben Hur movie with Charleston Heston.

I'm find it more and more, I'd rather drive the back roads with just the two lanes instead of the freeway, for just the reasons that have been mentioned. Less traffic, and less chance of someone coming up behind, or along side of me, just to either see what I've got, or the young bucks trying to show off and think they can egg me into racing them.

I guess one of the advantages I do have, is if some one does come up behind and wants to tail gate, I can can put the ole pedal to the metal, and leave them behind. Usually they get the message to not screw with me.

In town, it's to the point I really don't want to drive in town any more. I don't know how you guys in the big cities do it.

As far as some of them pulling right in front of me, I can't say I've had much of any trouble with that out on the freeway here, because the traffic for the most part is pretty light.

All in all, for me anyway, I know I have the acceleration to get away, or the good brakes to stop if I have to.

But again, as mentioned in another post above, the one thing that does kind of scare me the most is seeing some snot nose little girl on the phone motoring along oblivious to whats going on.

I suppose the one saving grace for us ole farts is, we were taught how to drive defensively, especially with those old cars that didn't have good acceleration or brakes, and had to learn to drive accordingly.

But back to the original question, yes Virginia there is a difference between driving around in a hot rod vs driving something newer.
