i did search first, but came up w/ little results. i'm talkin' teens/20s/30s rods here. everyone wants a roadster, conv, sedan, coupe, truck, or RPU. has anyone here built a cool huckster, depot hack,c-cab,dually,stake body, phone booth(tall T), or center door? maybe a hearse or flower car? maybe they didnt call 'em flower cars until the 50s, but ya know what i mean. i've seen plenty of these restored, and other rodded, but rarely rodded cool. i'm askin' because i've had this crazy idea in my head for 4 years, and i'm goin' to pick up a frame for it tomarrow morning. am i the only fool out there? P.S. pix would be great
I have a 37 Dodge huckster truck or whats left of it.The frame is zee's, going to be channeled and chopped. I have a slant 6 and am getting a 35 Dodge front axle for a 1/4 eliptcal[or some thing like that]front end. The only thing good was the title and front fenders, sold the fenders, now what.
The way I see it, You need to ask this Question in about 20 years---or so! The hot numbers are Hot Rods of all styles those early '70s rods were a fad, and the Street Rod where really opening the door and now the bad word " Rat Rod " Should have never been coined by Gray Baskerville It should have been "The Old Hot Rods are Back With Us ."
Here's my 1922 Ford Depot Hack, I got it on the road a few months ago and its been pretty fun. I've had it out to a couple of shows and it gets a lot of attention. I built the frame from c channel and dropped in a Jag engine for power. It moves pretty good and makes plenty of noise with that custom exhaust.
I think I saw your Bantam in some magazines didn't I? Rolls and Pleats maybe? I was partially inspired by your lack of a radiator and also hid mine in back so the engine could be better displayed. I also love your wheels, they are from a Ford tractor if I remember correctly. Nice work
The pictures above show an XK grille but I'm sorry to say that it didn't make the final cut. After I painted the frame and mounted the aluminum XK fan I didn't want the grille to obscure the fan.
http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/featuredvehicles/0809rc_1927_ford_coupe/index.html There was also a Tall T in the September 2008 Hot Rod Deluxe that I have here next to my computer. It's very nice. I can't find any pics online though.
Tfee that thing is RAD!....Holy Crist......with another motor that would be something I would look at for about a minute and a half....with the jag, I prolly just stared at the pic for about twenty!!
i don't know if this is what you want. here's a truck my dad bought back in the early 80's it a was one tone water truck that the guy set on a Volkswagen pan. it had a engine out of a vw bus. it was a total metal flake paint job we used to call it the blue diamond, when we were kids.
This is not exactly a rod but IS about as odd as they get. I built it in the early 1970's as a joke based on a cartoon in an Aussie hot rod magazine. Yes, it is a V8 powered unicycle. It was made out of a bunch of left over parts including an old Mopar "poly" block and heads. It was a big hit at the yearly hot rod show and even got me on the front page of the local paper. Roo
Its from the 50's but its a willys, so its 30's technology http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267743
That is pretty wild. Have you ever got anyone to ride it? When the circus comes to town, see if you can get one of the unicyclists to see if they can ride it.
well my tudor might not be considered until you take into account that it's on a buick frame. my other one is on the list in the first post and getting my caddy flathead now but i'm still not telling anyone until i get it dug out of where it is
Jay, as per your request. For those who have not seen this car before it is totally street legal here in Indiana--no scam on the title, it was signed off by the state BMV. Roo
Damned if I know . When I bought it at a local tractor museum auction in California the body had been cut off to make a flat bed and an old P Series Volvo motor was in it . Oddly enough it had New Mexico plates on it then . I guess it likes being in New Mexico . Currently Bianchi is a well known bicycle maker , several Tour winners have ridden them . Unbeknownst to most they made motorcycles and automobiles early on and until after the war when they merged with other firms and disappeared . Tazio Nuvolari drove A Bianchi early in his career .
