Whats up guys? I have been thinkin.... I have a 54 ford, its for sale in the classifieds, that i would really like to get rid of... bein its a fourdoor and whatnot. But i've got to thinkin what if i had to keep it? I already have to much money into it to try and make a profit off it... shoulda kept the drum brakes... anyway Id definatly put a lot of work into it, french the lights in, lower it, and chop it. But its a fourdoor, i was messin around in paint, choppin it and stuff... Looked horrible! haha. then i got a crazy idea to somehow put a chopped 50 chevy coupe roof on it... I have the roof...I dunno how close it is to the same width as the ford or anything, but im just gettin the gears turnin ya know? Am i crazy for even thinkin this can be done? I dunno Jim's shoebox has showed me pretty much anything is possible... what do you guys think... here is a crappy photochop rendering...

is it Dumb looking? is it sexy? how are the proportions? I kinda like it a lot and think it can be worked with if its at all possible.

Some keen skills would be needed , but on the whole I think it would make for a pretty original custom ......

I wish I had of thought to photoshop a BBQ in my front yard ... :D

I think it looks great, and shouldn't be too hard to do, since any chop takes a lot of slicin' and dicin' anyway. I'd say the biggest problem would be the windshield area. And then, there's the problem of all those doors.

  4. Hell I like it, do it. Definitely something different and if done right wont have the 'Rat Rod' proportions of many chops these days. It will keep people guessing!

Well. Atleast the title to your post was accurate. :)

I don't think it looks bad, but i'm not sure if it's looks good enough to go through with it, in my opinion. It would be a helluva lot of work. Unfortunately I don't have either car in front of me to give you measurements from. If there's one thing i've learned from around here... it's anything is possible. So i'd say YES it's possible... but is it worth it? The jury is still out on that one with me.

I'll give you credit for thinking outside of the box though. Have you contemplated using any other roofs?

as far as another roof goes... Im open to ideas, but i figured i already have the 50 chevy roof on a car i already cut the trunk and quarters off of so that car is useless anyway haha.

If that car in your avatar is yours, I think you should finish that first.

If I did anything Id put a chopped 56 Merc hardtop roof on it capping off convert or Victoria doors and cowl.Just like Don Antonelli did back in 57.Well actually he had Les Cove in Hilside New Jersey do it.

hahaha that is my car and it is gettin finished first... this whole ford thing is just in case i have to keep the car, it would get done over the spring/summer next year. hmm that does sound like a pretty cool idea 00 mack... do you have any pictures of it?

  11. I like the idea, but I like the front screens on the ford.
It would be easier to put the rear quaters from the ford onto a chev.
Maybe just from the behind the front screen back would look cool, and taper the the roof so its a bit lower at the back, to match the taper in the body.
Dont know about the spats though.

Do it, you can always make it a convert if you stuff it up :)

  12. I know nothing about chopping a top, but a '56 Mercury 2 dr hardtop roof would look sexy as hell on there.

haha hell yea! jersey kustoms are where its at... The little voice inside of me is whispering quads....quads... quads and a continental kit... haha but seriously there is nothing not to like about that car... speaking of a continental kit, i have a caddy bumper with the holes for the exhaust in it... would look pretty bad ass with a conti kit. maybe some 54 lincoln tail lights instead of the olds ones...

Do you think im goin in the wrong direction, by trying to put an older roof on a car to try and customize it? I mean its all about trying to "update" them right? just somethin about it though....

  18. What the heck, keep it and fix it your way.

  19. Why not put the 54 Linc rear quaters on as well, I love the way they come 3/4 of the way up the panel.
    Get into it fingers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMHO, the roof's too round for that body style. The 52 and up Fords started getting longer, straighter panels than the earlier, rounder bodies. The Chevies were even rounder looking.
That's why the later, flatter Merc roof would look better!
I might have 54 Linc quarter sections (no taillights, though) if you are taking these guys seriously. Not right away, but after the winter.

Go and measure the roof and the car, and then do an accurate photoshop to scale. Then you´ll see. Its easy to fool yourself playing about with Photoshop!

Any form is possible if you have the desire & dream. That's the most important part. Did you see the recent Overhaulin' were they made a two door convertible out of a four door '54 Ford sedan? Now all you need is a large heated garage with every tool imaginable, a load of money & Chip Foose & a crew of 30 working around the clock.

well right now it looks pretty basic like previously said, a chevy roof on a ford.. because thats what it is right now.. but when measured, cute and shaped alittle to fit I think it would be a huge improvement to a stock ford roof which I dont like anyway on that year..

btw ive had this idea as well.. a crazy idea yes.. but a good one I think.

I dig it. It would be different and cool if you pulled it off..
one thing I can think of is the space behind the package tray and the trunk might look wierd.
I was thinking also maybe 54 pontiac grill or early 50's packard grill
