I'm building a 38 dodge pickup and was considering using 37 ford truck rear fenders for it. I see Speedway has free shipping so I wanted to get some input before I bought them, I couldn't find any reviews on the net that anyone posted. Thanks guys

how was the quality? also did the wheel openings roll under or were they just cut out with a saw? I have a set of glass fenders for 36-38 dodge but they are crappy, wheel openings have a raw edge that looks like hell

Just a thought... if you call Speedway, one of their tech guys should be able to tell you if the wheel openings are finished.

Yeah I thought of that but when you sell a product you never point out all the bad stuff. Just thought I would get the straight scoop here.

  8. If it were me, I'd call Rod 'n Race fiberglass in WV. Better molds, better parts and will be a whole lot cheaper on freight than from Nebraska. Tell Eric, Rich sent you.

I used them when I built the yellow and red extended cab pus for Speedway. They worked alright and they leave some extra material at the bead edge so you can work them to get a nice bead. I did have a some pinholes to contend with.

Thanks krylon32 good to know, I guess you would know if you worked there. Just might take them up on the free shipping deal.

Why not just ask the SPeedway folks whose fenders they are selling? I'm sure they don't make their own fenders.

28buwik: Don't get me wrong, I was never an employee of Speedway. I built the trucks and a T bucket in my shop at my place of business.

What Rich Venza says - he used to own Rod 'n Race so he should know.

  14. I got a set of model A wide fenders seem equal to original in bead area for shape , yea it got no bead on edge, but looks good , fairly thick, they Make their own glass AFAIK
have not tried to mount them, got some storage cautions on them

they may be truck freight and not free

i did the rebuild on the original front fenders  and like the glass rears better, they seem a little more sturdy and much beter formed than the old Ford stuff

    Rich:

What is the "normal" wall section thickness used for street-car fiberglass pieces such as fenders?

  17. Sorry for the delay...been busy. Wall thickness in chopper gun (Speedway) parts will vary due to the skill of the operator. At Rod 'n Race, I never owned a chopper gun, so by using 2 or 3 layers of 2 oz matt, our thickness would run from 3/16" to 1/4" with an extra layer around the edges.
