Any theories as to what happened to the car? We were talking about it at the bar the other night, and to me it is one of the greatest mysteries in old car folklore...

  2. It was abducted by aliens along with the real George Barris....

But seriously....if you do a search on here, there was quite a comprehensive thread on it maybe a couple of years back...

  3. It was melted down and turned into Gold windbreakers and sungl***es for Kirk and George Barris

Heard legend that it was sold off piece by piece, and every car that had a piece on it ended up crashing in a firey ball of irony, and killing the driver. Seriously!!!
Even if that not the real story its the one i'm gonna keep telling!!!

  9. I was into about a third of his BIo then put it down to read Curtis Turner. Much better book, LOL I'll have to pick up the book again one of these days and see what happened with the car.

it was found in a lovers lane with a "hook" stuck on the door handle!!And some lady who took spanish fly was on the gear shift .But a guy died in it & you can buy it cheap but can't get the smell out.
Its behind 10 crates of WWII harleys that a bunch of High school buddies chipped in for & never picked up, they only paid $25.
Oh yeah & theres a bunch of the red plastic wrapper removers off of marlboro cigs they where suppose to buy a vet a iron lung with!!
Its easy to find ask Wally, he bought it after the beaver was killed in nam

    Funny this comes up..

At a car show this weekend..

Guy comes up..telling his friends and GF..
"This is the car Dean Martin died in"..

Looks at me..I guess for verification..

Uh..Dean Martin ?..I think he had a Jaguar..but..I don't know if he died in it..

    GF..says.."Not Dean Martin..some other dude.."

I guess some other dude probably died in a XK120..?!?..I replied

My buddy next to me who can translate Ignorant..figures it's JAMES DEAN..not Dean Martin..

    Oh..yeah..his was a Porsche..

Guy says.."yeah but it was silver.."

Oh..close..mine is a Jaguar..Gray..and No Martin's or Dean's..or James have been known to die in it.. :)

It is my understanding that the Dean car was used as a visual aid in driver ed cl***es after the accident. It was somewhere in the midwest ( I think ) when it was stolen. It never turned up. The interesting thing is that all the parts on a Porsche 550 such as engines, body panels, suspension parts etc. had a partial vin on them. Porsche people are nutty like Corvette people and keep track of all of this stuff and Porsche 550 experts claim that none of the parts from Deans car have ever turned up.

    Oh heres one....

Back in high school a friend and I are talking chopped panheads one day.

Seems his older brothers friend had gone to a garage sale and buys a 50's sporty.

Starts tearing into it and what does a little plaque under the seat say

"Dear Prisella, happy birthday, love ELVIS"

He still swears his older bro,s friend had the bike and sold it for a huge amount of coin.

Anyone else ever hear that one....I always wondered if that was one those stories.

Funny thing is I go away to college years later and I am sure I told the story as a freshman....years later I'm sitting on this dudes couch and were talking choppers....

Well You guessed it...he goes "dude my buddys bro bought a harley and under the seat it said" dear Prisella, happy birthday, love Elvis"....I said bro, "I told you that story like fours years ago"..."Now hit that and lets go for a ride"

    True story I swear.....hahaha

This comes up here every couple of years.
Supposedly it's stored in a container in Oklahoma.
Story is, "someone" on here knew the family members of
    James Dean, and saw it.
Otherwise, its locked away and no one knows exactly where or by whom.

    Maybe it's true.........

The James Dean Porsche, or what was left of it, was stolen by the same people that stole the original Easy Rider motorcycle. Both were stolen from the company that had them on display at the car shows. There are still a couple of people in Detroit that know the details. I heard that Mr. Ba**is collected some good insurance money.

If that's true, I bet he wishes he had both vehicles back instead of that check! The Dean Porsche would be rebuilt and worth what, 7 million? Easy rider bike another mill?
