<font color="green">So I need to order some seat belts for the 59 Biscayne and the 41 Chevy Tudor.

    There are different lengths.

    Which do I probably need?

I am on the road again... doo..doo.doo.doo....

Just can't wait to get home again... doo..doo.doo.doo....

Or I would measure it up myself. And still get it wrong.

So, anybody put some in similar cars and what length did you use?

I'm probably ordering the chrome latch types from JC WHITNEYS.

    Thanks,

  2. Most of them come in 72" thats pretty good for the average car.

You can cut heavy rope to any length...

Loop it around the back of the seat and tie a tow hook to each end...hook one hook to the other hook across your gut and you're good to go!

    Drinking Blatz 'ey?

    That explains ALOT!!!

I was thinking of going with some of that new fangled nylon webbing shit with maybe a chrome metal latching apparatus of some sort.

    I know, I know.....

Throw me on the "Gold Chainers" list!!!

Drags, Maybe you need an extension, like the airplanes? I saw a woman that had to have two extensions once.

    GAWD DAMN!!!

Ddid you know that every part on an airplane has to have an "Federal Aviation Administration Technical Standard Order" number?

    It's FAA TSO for short.

    I ain't lying either.

So, when you look on the back of those seat belt extensions, It says "FAA TSO"

    on it.

    TEE-HEE.

    Check this out.

I reckon I'll just order the long ones and go....

Probably airplane belts, I've got several sets brand new, one end is to short to make it to the floor. On the airplane you'll notice they are fastened to the seat frame and not the floor.

<font color="green">I've searched my favorite junkyards.

The only ones I found that were close to what I want were out of old Mopars, half rotted away.

They're cheap enough brand new, just trying to figure out if I wanted the 60 wahtever size or 72.

Guess I'll go with the 72 and maybe cut em down if they are TOOOOOOOO long.

    Thanks peeps,

Rashy! Duct tape only has a 8 month shelf life so make sure you have an up-dated roll when "sex night" comes this year!

Fellows, if'n you have a set of real rightous seat belts, but they are too short, see your upholstery guy.

My wife is a stitcher and she pays like a couple of bucks per linear yard for new seat belt webbing. We just reweb any neat belts we want to use. It's available in a multitude of colors too.

<font color="green"> That's really good info because I would like some harnesses for the 41.

I've looked on EBAY but the ole-skool ones are always bombed out or made to attach to a roll bar.

I need them to go over the back of the seat and into the floor.

So, how much to reweb some if I come across some?

    Oh, and Tuff Tin,

Her bustly loose on occasion is part of the fun!!!

The leash usually keeps her in check though. [IMG]

Would you trust a seat belt that's been sitting outside in the elements for 30 or 40 years? Go with Hillbilly Hotrodders suggestion and find an upholstery place that sells the webbing. I used to go to a place in AZ that had EVERYTHING!!

i loved this topic over in the full size jeep forum, one guy changed his column to a chevy tilt and telesope then he had to move his seat back , cuz he was umm rather fat!!!, and then since he moved it back he had the shoulder harness coming way out in front of him!! , so he moved it back and used a length of chain to get the extra length he needed, and of course thought it was the greatest tech tip ever,i said he should have plastic dipped it like i did mine so the chain wouldnt rattle ,he said he would great idea oh yes people they are out there!!!! Rashy,

I put fixed anchor belts in my shoebox (almost identical to the aircraft-style latch belts pictured a few posts earlier in the thread). I did a bunch of measuring and head scratching before ordering. In the end I got 60" belts for the rear and 74" belts for the front. The rear belts don't have to run near as far to the anchor point, and also don't have to acommodate the seat moving forward (which is when you really need to be sure you've got enough belt).

    I ordered my stuff from:

    Andover Automotive

One of the key reasons I ordered from them is because the underbody reinforcement plates they had looked rock solid. The plates were $25/pair (steep, IMHO) but belts won't do a damn bit of good if they're not secured properly. I was major impressed when I got em shipped to me, and even more pleased when I did the install.

Putting belts in the shoebox was one of the first thing I did to it. My wife wouldn't let the kids so much as cruise the neighborhood till I got em in. At the time the kids were in booster seats (with shoulder harnesses and so forth) and with the lap belts run through the core of the seats, they weren't going anywhere. Thank God I have not had to put them to the test.

The total cost wasn't cheap. $271 for 4 sets of belts, ALL needed hardware, plus shipping. I could have saved $40 on the plastic cover deals for the anchors, but since I had "full support from the my chief finance officer" (it was a safety issue, after all), I decided to go all out. The instructions that came with the belts was great and gave me a few things to think about before drilling holes. I spent more time measuring and checking for clearances (top and bottom) than actually turning wrenches. This was a great project to get the wife involved with, since it's helpful to have someone topside to keep the bolts from turning.

Any specific questions, just hollar, and good luck!

Just because the two elkies i told you about have both been sold. I went to my nephews and measured his 60 biscane (409 4sp) belts they are 72 inches

  29. Murph is right on about this one. The short ones are for the back seat and the longer ones for the front to allow for movement of the front seat. I bought the lift-buckle style from JC Whitney including shoulder harnesses up front for about $60 for all. They are good quality and have all the mounting hardware. Andover sells the nice reinforcements, but I made my own for a lot less. Just my .02
