Sure, It will be a lot of work. But its tempting...., although Im not desperate for another project. I really like this Mercs damn it. Whenever a 55/56 shows up around here at least all the chrome, windshield, etc is gone and price usually doubles this. This one was teared appart but everything's there. Oh, and the******* is also there, not missing. 3speed manual. I think it could be a driver in the shortime. About the looks, it could easily look better than that. The good body and paint job can wait. Am I wrong ?
I bought a parts car for my 55 Merc wagon that ws in better shape than that one for $300, WITH historical documentation.
I think the difference between a Monteray and Montclair was the options. Montclair had more bling. The pic of bad Bobs', the blue and white one, #28,that's a Monteray, the others are Montclairs. More stainless trim on Montclairs.
Yes it's a Montclair because it has the lower roofline. The Monterey had a higher roofline than the Montclair. Here's a pic of a 55 Monterey for reference.
If you have the cash to buy it go for it. If it has a clear transferable****le.I Those hogged out fenders were the late 60's early 70's fix for fat tires for the "gasser" look before people started narrowing axles to have the car done right. Quarters or pieces of quarters shouldn't be that hard to find. But it still has to be what you want and not what you are settling for.
Are the rooflines the same between the Monterey and the Montclair in '56? I pulled a couple of pics of '56 Monterey's and I can't tell the difference.
