I've got a jd2 bender. As my tool collection gets bigger, and my garage got smaller, It's hard to keep it bolted to the floor away from the wall. Anyone ever made a mobile stand for one that you can fasten when in use? With that much torque, a mobile stand will surely move. Any ideas?
I rigged up a set up on a steel folding horse. I hook my porta power to it and go hydraulic. When I am not using it I fold the saw horse up and put everything away. It would never work if you are doing it manual though. I bought one of those cheap swap meet porta powers and it works well for me
I made a trailer hitch based mount on the side of our frame table, which is on wheels. 2" chromemolly the table rolls a bit with the long cheater bar. you could mount it this way to just about any bench, just make sure that the bench is bolted down.
my son (azwillis) made a mount that slid into his trailer hitch on his truck, worked fine now he converted it to elec/hydrolic and its on a roll-around stand that is a very nice setup
I took a 2" pipe about 4 ' long welded a flange on top to bolt the bender to. then I stood it next to my vise and welded a 4"x8" plate to the pipe. basicly my JD2 clamps in my vise, via the plate and has a leg that suports the weight. Its worked for me for 2 years now. takes up no room, just lean it up in the corner, and when I want to use it I dont have to pick that bear trap up off the ground. if you like I can post a pic. Matt
I punched the floor for some BIG Hilti HDI masonary anchors. With which I then screw in 2 LONG (and Large) anchor bolts sticking several inches above the ground (only when needed) I then roll the bender into place and viola - it's stationary. I've bent 1-1/2" OD .09 wall chromoly - no problems at all. When done I roll it out of position - remove the bolts - store them in the legs of the roll around frame so I don't loose them and roll the bender back into the corner. Worked for me.
My first JD2 bender was manual. It was a PITA, there was always something parked(dead)over my anchor points. Got a chance to sell it and bought a new one with the air over hydraulic set up. It's sweet because it doesn't need to be tied down. I just pull it out to a level spot on my floor and have at. Another benefit is that if I'm bending something really long that I don't have room to swing I hang on to the material and the bender pivots. Beats using the tie down points I had in the driveway for such things. Put a quick coupler on the air over hydraulic unit and use it to run your porta power, press, and cherry picker too.
my buddy has a big hossfeld and he anchors/moves it with his forklift...it has a channel on the bottom that the fork slides into....pretty tough to move a forklift...
i have a trailer hitch receiver in flush mounted in my concrete, so i just drop it in when i need to use my bender.
I like this. This would work well for me. The damn things just too heavy to be portable. I could add 2 castors and a handle, wheel it to my big vise, and clamp it down. Not sure what I'll end up doing. It'll be a while til I use it again. Just trying to organize the shop.
