Thanks! yeah, I need to give this a lot of thought before I take any action on my Plymouth. My six runs super nice and smooth, so I could wait a while and save up some dough for the other things I will need to do a swap, that's a good point on the rear end. What year Desoto is that pictured??
A project and a half away, you'll see it, Potvin blower in the grille shell, b+m type Hydro and probably radiator in the back
Now that is a nice find.Since you are just going to ponder it for a while. Why not build yourself a stand and fire that thing off.At least you could ponder it while running it a few times a month.
Buckle ... Cool find! Be sure to bring the engine block # with you when you visit the museum ... they should be able to search their archives and tell you exactly what car your 331 HEMI was originally installed in ... and provide you with all kinds of useless (but cool) info about the car (body style, exterior color, interior color, factory options, etc.). As you probably are already aware, the 1954 331ci 4bbl engine # starts out with C542-8... and the '54 2bbl engine # begins with C541-8...
The engine in my racecar (avatar) came out of a '54 New Yorker. It had a 4-BBL and the short-tailed block (I know; I bought the Offenhauser adapter to put it against the CAE in-out box, which is an early Ford bolt pattern), if that helps. Good find, however, since I've been looking for a backup engine, all I could find at a reasonable price were long-tails. I finally found a 331 out of a '56 DumpTruck. I'd rather fight the heat riser problems than the bellhousing ones.
You know if you want to see what it would look like in a 30 Model A coupe I could set it in mine and drive past for you, hehehehe.
I will give you 35 dollars right now for it! Nice find man that kicks ***. Seems that most guys say they have something sittin in a barn somewhere and it turns out to be nothing near what they said it was.
I helped unload that tank off the trailer and it was heavy. I live down the road from Buckle and as he always says "It's better to give than to have stolen." So there you go Aaron. haha
I bought a 331 with a bolt on extended bell that spent its life as the engine for a welder. Runs great!
