Hello there, everybody! I'm 34 yrs old guy from Finland and I've been into Old American Iron since I was seventeen and got my first car, a 1962 T-bird. Now, after many newer Fords, at last I got my greasy fingers on a real kustomproject a '51 Mercury Sport Sedan. I'm planning to do a mildly customized cruiser out of her with the original 255 Flathead & manual trans. Some lakepipes, wide whites, louvers, sunvisor, etc... and of course, she's gonna be low...
Thought someone would notice, but the first one... Yes, The Sonics happens to be one of my favourites...
Had the privelige of helping to finance their two London shows earlier this year.Still awesome & a nice bunch of guys.Gerry Roslie sounds just the same as on the records
There's some: http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/1561546/ & forward from there. Will be adding photos as project goes on...
welcome to the HAMB! Are there any old "chevys" in Finland? Whats that Race in the pics? also is it a Ford only show? JimV
It's called Freak-Race; every year event of Ford-Freak Club Of Finland. Started out as Freak's Peak hillclimb. More pics on their homesite:http://www.ford-freak.org/ All makes are welcome to the race, I'm just SO freak that most of my photos are of FoMoCos.
Sounds great but NO NO No sunvisor, those are ugly and were never on real customs in the 50's and early 60's. Ok if you are going for the So Cal lowrider Bomb look but otherwise not in the custom realm.
I think the visor makes the roofline look lower somehow. Chopping would be so m***ive job with four doors and everything... To my opinion, 4D would be best with a very mild chop, when a 2D could be more radical...
Good taste in cars AND music. Nice merc. I'm going to see The Sonics tomm. night (Halloween!) in Seattle. It's their first local show since 1972. Drop "D" tuning and distorted, overdriven amps in the mid-1960's? Hell yeah! They are the grandaddy's of hard rock.
Okay. Just pulled the motor out yesterday, took the left head & intake off and found this: http://kuva1.kuvablogi.com/iso/img1583281.jpg Looks pretty o.k. to me, but how about this one: http://kuva1.kuvablogi.com/iso/img1583282.jpg Looks like there's some corrosion on the deck & around the intake valve. Being a newbie with the flatheads, I'm just asking does this look rebuildable to you? Seems like the engine has never been opened before, and I didn't see any cracks or something like that. ****load of sludge, though...
