Did a search on this but still can't find'um on the frame. Got to get my ***le transfered and talked to the Trooper at the tag office, nice guy, told me the vin number on the 50 should be located just forward of the suspension on the drivers side. cleaned it off last night still can't see it, any ideas where else it could be.
the trooper at the tag office doesnt know what hes talking about. the vin is on the firewall. look for a little plate rivited to the firewall, the vin is stamped on it. ive had two shoes and the vin was in different places on the firewall of each car.
When i did the search on this some of the guys did come back and say it COULD be stamped on the frame left side in front of the suspension or could be on the triangular piece that runs from the frame rail to the front of the cross member .
There is also one on the frame its at the front on the braceing that is on an angle running from the side rails to the front crossmember.
Fwiw - 39 Fords had the VIN on the top frame rail proper just opposite the front crossmember. I believe they stayed in that general area for quite a while. You may have to sand down to bare metal since several coats of paint will fill in the stamped numbers. I don't think the shoebox vins are on the stamped plate on the right side of the firewall near the fresh air sheet metal intake tube.
On my 51 Ford there is a 45 degree brace from the Motor mount crossmember to the frame rail behind the Rad. They are on top of it. Not sure if they are the same 49/50 or not. The Wizzard
My 49 has it on the right frame rail top by the upper A arm and a Vin tag in the hole near the fresh air inlet on the firewall. Its not in plain sight its back in the corner.
My 51 is that way also, these cars were ***embled all over the country and the different plants might have had some variances.
All Fords 49-51 have a Vin tag rivited to the body and matching Vin # stamped on the Frame. They are in different places for the 3 years but in same place each year. The Wizzard
Don't know where 49-50 are but if you go to your local D.M.V. and tell them your buying an Old Ford and want to verify the Vin# to the ***le they will tell you where to look. The Wizzard
The stamped numbers on the firewall ain't what you need. You're looking for a little tag like the one above. On my '51 it's on the p*** side. It could very easily be painted over. If you have the VIN, you can buy a replacement tag and stamp the number into that, the cost like 10 bucks at the resto places. I never had any luck finding the vin on the frame, but then I didn't like fooling around down there much any how!!
The VIN is on BOTH the firewall and the Frame. VIN yag riveted to the firewall. On my 51 it was stamped on top of the right side diagonal gusset that connects the frame horns to the crossmember. Looking at it from above, its directly above the LCA mounting point. I had to take it to bare metal to find it.
On my '50 Ford the frame number is on the p***enger side near the front suspension mount point. The body number is a rivited on tag NOT the long number stamped across the back of the firewall.
