What were the manual (4 speed) transmissions that came behind Buick 215's. How rare are the bellhousing and manual transmsions these days. Didn't most of these come stock with automatics?
I have a Special convertible with V8 and factory 4 speed manual - the transmission is not your common Muncie or Saginaw - an orphan of some sort. And, yes , most were automatic, and manual bellhousings and flywheels are rare. That said, go to www.aluminumV8.com to find a lot of info and parts - good people to deal with, and know EVERYTHING about these cars. They have aftermarket flywheels and adaptors for Muncies.
dont forget that when the tooling was bought by Rover, they attached manual trans in various things like the TR8
Here's a thread where this topic has been discussed before: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92864 I have a 1962 Buick Special with a 3 on the tree that I'm going to convert to a floor shift four speed. fms427 is right about the folks at www.aluminumV8.com being very knowledgeable about the 215 Buick's, and very nice folks too. They are going to build the 215 for my car. Good luck and let us posted.
