Anyone know what to look for on this? My cars Dana positraction rear is skipping or hopping a little when I turn the wheel tight.

What can be the problem? I appriciate any help you can offer...

    Thanks,

Mine does that. Plates are chattering. Time to change the oil.

Light car tight posi doesnt "ratchet" like it should. So it kinda drags one tire a bit in a tight turn.

Depends on the type. If it is a Plate type, change the oil and add some friction modifier, available as most Ford Dealers.

They will do that if you use synthetic oil in them or if the clutches are new. just put some positrac additive in there and make some right and left circles till it goes away.

The guys are right , change your oil . but an posi will do it anyway cause the outside wheel is travelling further than the inside it causes it to hop a little ....
Even my late model daily with IRS LSD does it ....

the friction modifier makes a huge difference. Its about $6-$8

I bought the additive at a chain store parts place for 5 bucks. On the back of the gear oil bottle it says if it's for limited slip or open diffs.

You need to give us history to get a better answer.

Is this a new posi? And old one that just started doing it out of the blue? An old one that started doing it after a fluid change??

If it's chattering usually it needs more friction modifier. Don't waste your time on the parts store additive, that stuff is mostly ****. Especially the "Trans-X" brand sold by advance, autozone, etc.

Stick to either GM additive or Redline additive, those seem to have the most bang for the buck, even with the higher cost.

Small capacity rears like a 7.5 GM can often get away with one bottle, larger capacity rears like a 9" ford often require 2 bottles.

    good luck

If I remember correctly, I think some of the GM fluid already comes with friction modifier in it. It's been a few years since I've snuck behind the parts counter tho...

Get some of the NEW stuff GM designed to calm down the Corvettes. It just came out this year and requires no additive. We've been putting in Corvettes, SSRs and SS Trailblazers with 100% success. After a few miles of driving they quiet down and on hard acceleration they still hook up good. I run it in all my stuff.
