It seems to me that a lot of hot-rods have gone over to disc brakes, so there might be a lot of the original '40 to '48 drum brake setups lying around under benches etc. Am I right in this? I'm looking for a set but seem to finish up blind alleys all the time. Any ***istance would be appreciated.
They are all over the place. Have you even checked the cl***ifieds lately? Usually a set or two every week.
yes. cl***ifieds. here. right when you go to jalopyjournal.com/forum there's a big link underneath "hokey *** message board". that says "cl***ifieds". there's also a cool feature here under the search function where you can set your search to look in just the cl***ifieds, or in every forum, or in any other forum you want, and in the whole post, or just the ***le. in the cl***ifieds you can even post under the "wanted" section for what you want. pretty self explanatory, but read the posted rules on posting in the cl***ified sections first so you don't get anyone jumping on you. look around. you'll find all kinds of good hidden things on the hamb.
As said above, they are easy to find used. You can even buy them brand new from Speedway. Lots of tech info here, including converting to Buick finned aluminum drums, if you do a search. You may want to consider F1 brakes, they are self-energizing.
Thanks, guys, found them easy now... just needed to know what I was looking for... I can't use the Buick drums, they must be original Ford.
