Has anyone installed a brake and clutch pedal set up in a Chassis Engineering 32 Ford center X member? I talked to them but they said the clutch pedal will hit the top pf the x leg. Any HAMBers modified theirs. Thanks Duane
Check the Sept issue of Street Rodder Magazine for some tips on how our own Matt (HotRodDrummer) and Denny Leskey (Ionia Speed Shop) do an installation on a Chassis Enginering clutch pedal. If it doesn't answer all of your questions it will give you some valuable tips. Their work is always first class. Frank
Got the same response from Chassis Engineering myself; and just heard about the same article today. I'll be tracking down a copy myself.
Using one on mine, have to trim the top part of "X" also top of the hole the pedal goes through, then I gusseted the rear of the top x behind where I trimmed. Anybody have any Ideas for a slave cyl. and bracket?
I'm having a bitch of a time tracking down a copy of that. Tried searching out back-issues, but it's too new. The local Barnes and Noble said that that issue has already been shipped back to the publishers recycling bins. Any body suggest another means?
Im in the same boat, I wanted the normal floor pedals but when I talked to them on the phone the guy said their own pedal set up wasnt that great. Not a lot of confidence in trying it. Someone should post a picture of what it looks like so I can see whats going on, they dont have any pictures on the website.
I use it all the time. CE is quite negative about the setup over the phone for a reason - it is far from a "bolt on and go" application. I've been a CE dealer for 15 years, and every time I order the 2032BC, I get the standard response, "are you sure you want that? it is really hard to install..." You stick the clutch pedal through the hole in the x-member for the exhaust, you have to open up the hole to give more travel room in both directions. It isn't that big of a deal. A little gusseting will strengthen the area back up. I like to mount the clutch MC off of the frame rail about 10-12" back, just behind in the brake MC. I'll look for some pics on my PC and post them later.
I had the same deal on the phone. He basically told me to use a stock 40 Ford pedal setup that it would work out better.
I have just worked through this problem on my 3 window. I have a CE X member and using a Pete and Jakes's pedal assembly from Vaphead. My good friend Nick Bucolla(engineer by day and hot rod builder by night) worked out a solution for the pedal problem. We broke the leg on the X member and blended in the pedal assembly. It worked out great.
Are you not taking away too much of the torsional purpose of the X member doing it that way? The frame wants to pull up on that side as torque is applied to the engine. I'll try the 40 pedals first.
I couldn't find a good picture - it isn't that hard to work out. The yellow Tudor in my avatar <-- has CE pedals and X-member with a Tremec. Those pics are long gone...two computer crashes ago.
Hey Marx, I've got that issue! Make you a deal- Let Matt and I come over Sunday with my chassis for some welding and I'll bring it with. Then we can both figure out what we're going to do... I've got a '40 Ford truck pedal assembly and it looks like more work to install than the CE clutch and brake assembly because the mounting pad is square to the pedals and not at and angle like the crossmember. -Stefan
Marx and I both decided that we're going to go with the double pedal set up from CE. We figured that with since we have the instructions in the article and each other to lean on we can get it done. Expect some additional posts when we finally get into it.
No, sorry, no new progress from Marx and I. We're both getting the rear axle set up yet. It's going to be a while yet for me.
I just loaded a boat load of pictures on this thread over here about the same deal.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=255445 Hope that helps some.
