This is spot on. I think if you stay close to this, you'd have a winner. I like the Caddy bezels idea too.

Another vote for listening to cleatus!
It's OK if you're not familiar with traditional styling, to ask questions, and try to get the correct way to go about customizing an old car. Just be sure to really listen to guys like cleatus, who have, or have built, really stylish, cl***ic customs. Fads, like those Mercedes lights, come and go, but cl***ic styling is "forever".
Great to want to do something new and different, but keep in mind the era of your car when planning changes. Each change should work to accentuate the existing lines, or if it's a big enough change, that it actually makes the car look better. Most common tricks are removal of excess trim, handles, locks, etc. Work to make the car look smoother, longer, lower, wider. Sometimes it doesn't take as much as you think, to affect a big change in looks!
Good luck and keep asking questions!

Opinions are like ***holes, everybody has one, so here's mine (opinion). Leave it alone. Get the original chrome done, forget changing the headlights, I can't think of anything that'll flow with the lines of the fenders better than the originals. You MIGHT get away with frenched lights using Merc bezels (NOT the awful Hagan ones sold now). I used some with good results in a '41 Chev several years ago.

Lower it a little with dropped spindles in front, blocks in the rear, lay a nice deep solid color on it, maroon, dark green or black, and call it good. You bought a '41 Pontiac that has some great art deco styling, don't chuck it and make it look like a 10 year old Mercedes...

i think you need to update your gauges and give me your old gauges, cause i am looking for some.

  7. I like fade-a-way fenders as much as anyone, BUT, the horizontal style line on the original fender do not, and will not, give you the smooth look you are envisioning. When GM added that strong horizontal feature to the fender, they really eliminated any possibility of creating a fade-a-way. Second option would be to use Chevy fenders and totally ruin the car. It's A Pontaic, please what ever you do, be sure it retains its Pontaic heritage.

Do NOT try to build a "never before seen" kustom - try to build a beautiful kustom! Don't worry about whether or not something has been done before, worry about whether or not it looks good. Believe me, your car will end up being one of a kind even if you steal ideas from a dozen other cars. Trying to be unique leads to things that look horrible just for the sake of being different. I bet there's never been a '41 Pontiac with a Pinto grille before, but you wouldn't do that, would you?
Don't rush into anything. Look carefully at cars you like AND cars you don't like, and figure out what they each have in common. Then you'll know what you do and don't want to do to the car.

Yeah, that car is the ****.
The next car I build is probably going to be a 46-48 chevy.
You could make it stand out with a killer one of a kind paint job.
Like they say, measure twice and cut once!

Finally, I'm back in. My computer wouldn't let me in for over a month. I've got Rocky's old '41 Poncho Bus Coupe. See if he can put some pics up for ya. My computer won't allow. My '41 is Black, with black/white interior, flames from front to over back fender, lowered, fatties in back, orig flathead 6, battery in trunk, white rims, beauty rims, etc. I love this car. You rarely see any PONTIACS. Had it out for a run this morning . Keep in touch.

Another vote for Cleatus. Hes right on about this one. Youve scored a really cool car that is not very common. Would be a beautiful mild custom, slammed. Please dont start hacking it up just for the sake of being different. I really dig all that Pontiac trim. The fact that its a 41 Pontiac fastback makes it different and sets it apart as is. Less is more on this one. Nice score!

I been messing around with my 41 here lately, I tried one of my 55 hubcaps and tire I made into a www from a rwl tire. Doesn't look too bad over the change from 6:00 16 tires.

The '41 fastback is my favorite Pontiac bar none. The lines are just so amazing that I would be hard pressed to think of something I'd want to change. Maybe a little frenching of the headlights, but nothing radical. Lower it a bit, wide whites with '55 wheel covers and a paint job that really shows off the lines of that pre-war beauty.

Please dear God, do not let this car body be altered!! A prayer that you will realize that this is a custom out of the box, those awesome peaked front fenders and all that super cool trim deserve to be saved. Spend your $ on the drive train, interior, etc. But whatever you do enjoy one of the coolest body styles ever made. p.s. I love Swedish girls!!~Sololobo~

i'm happy to let you all know i won't alter it too much.
i had it standing for over a year while i was moving and switching shop and stuff. and now when i got back to it i can't say i want to change the headlights anymore. i'm gonna lower it atleast in the back and take away the molding on the trunklid nad the rear lights. but the lights in the bumper instead and keep it original in the front.

right now i'm looking for a new left front bumper, it's smashed and "fixed" sometime in the 60s i think, and really needs to be replaced.

    thanx for all the advice!

Not exactly a Pontiac, but I always liked the lines of Lee Pratt's Buick at its best. As opposed to its current state as it is in the pictures of the red and black Buick that lowsprings posted. All that being said, this car rules!
