I was working on making a hammer form for my firewall. I wanted to make sure I had plenty of clearence for the distributor. After I dropped it into the block I noticed it looked off. The block is level but the Dizzy sits ot an angle. Never noticed this before. Anyone know why it mounts like this??? <STYLE type=text/css><!--td.attachrow { font: normal 11px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color : #000000; border-color : #000000; }td.attachheader { font: normal 11px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color : #000000; border-color : #000000; background-color: #D1D7DC; }table.attachtable { font: normal 12px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color : #000000; border-color : #000000; border-collapse : collapse; }--></STYLE>
are these heads matched? I ran across this once when a head was replaced. with a new one the old ones were machined at a different angle thus the intake sat uneven and the dizzy was off just like in your pic. Keith
i have a street dominator intake on my 327,wasnt as noticable until i put the mag in and it looks just like your pic. I dont have a awnser but I to would like to know.
appreciate the responces. Even you Dave...lol I knew it was not a problem just had never noticed the angl;e before and was curious why. In the3 pic it is a manifold sitting onthe block no heads. Back to the hammer forms Tim
yup normal but usually not noticeable until you open up the area or study it partially assembled like you have.the actual intake where the distrib mounts has an angled surface to mate with the dist base.......if your intake has a perfect flat base for the dist base, you will have a dist that wont mount 100% correct and be a very potential oil leak. Some cheap econo intakes I have seen this with, and had to have angled wedge shaped pieces machined for between the dist base and intake to match properly. This was found by installing the dist in the intake and seeing a wedge shaped void where the intake and dist base didnt mat at all except on one corner.
Ever wonder why those SBC's run sooooooo good? You've just seen one of the reasons revealed right here on the HAMB. Frank
It is as it was design to be;Think about it,here, the cam drives both dizzy and the oil pump, the cam is in the center and the oil pump is not,it has to drive them. so you bet it's off as in comes up out of the intake
Thanks tim... i noticed that years ago but never really looked at why . My reasoning was fuck it it works so why worry about why .... Dave
