Great work James D... but I got a stiff neck from watching it to long :)

    Rotated it a bit...

And personally I think the new trunk addition is just that... an addition.
If the bubble top would extent all the way to the new trunk line, then it would make sense.

imo the bubble on the trunk kinda turns the car around.. looks like a hood.
    I vote no.

Maybe a rear window from a 65 Barracuda or a 72 Riviera? I always wanted to stitch the Riviera rear glass on a caddy..

riveria glass would look good,,i agree,,,,,BUT...not period correct,,this car will appear to have been built circa 1957-58....

the project just flat out rocks with the imagination and ingenuity.
The photoshop versions are extremely badass.

I played with one of the photshop options in msn paint which I royally suck at but just wanted to show my personal thought of the roof line.

    dont laugh too hard

while thinking of this..the idea of the front of a VW beetle came into mind...possibly you could add a body line on the "bubble" similar of one on the hood/luggage compartment cover on the front of a beetle? just a thought

I was thinking of your trunk this morning and how to add more detail. I have a 1958 Ford and the trunk has a cool detail in the middle. How about three teeth aswell. I'm not good with photoshop so I hope you can visualize this.

Anyway, I love this project and I am eager to see it progress.

I wouldn't let the "period correct " aspect stop me from using what looks RIGHT. Who's to say the Riviera rear glass wasn't used on an earlier concept car and either didn't have the look they were after, or was just put on the backburner for what ever reason and brought back years later. I'm sure this has happpened many times over the years.

  11. Pah! Give `em an inch and they take a mile!:D
Here you go. I removed the hump from the back too, so you can see it both ways.

ok,,,,,,i decided the deck "hump" had to go,,,,did nothing to enhance the car whatsoever,,kinda looked like a 53 chevy hood welded to the deck (which is actually what it was)......it's history now,,,,,,
i thought all day long on this,,and think i have come up with something that will work way better......pics tomorrow if all goes well...

thanks for all your input guys,,,and thanks again for all the FANTASTIC photoshop work and ideas,,this place is the best..............

ok,,,,big day today.......been racking my brain on the decklid area,,,decided i hated the "bubble" i had tacked on,,,its history,,,,,,,,,,,

a buddy of mine suggested going back to the "taper sectioned" quarter that i did when i began this post,,the more i thought, the more it made total sense,,the taper of the quarter would follow the downward slant of the deck area,,,,,got out the 'ol cutoff wheel, and proceeded to "pie section" both quarters,,,,,once that was done, the rear area more or less just came to me,,,,,i will use the top section of 56 lincoln taillight lenses, and 55 packard bullets for bumpers (they will be recessed more than they are in the mock-up)...ill also use the 57 chevy pickup grille center (narrowed about 8") with gold expanded metal..and finally, a rolled pan,,,,,,,,design-wise,,its almost there,,,,,,,,i still need to widen my roof to fit,,,

  15. I am liking it more and more as it takes shape!

I know it's just in mock-up, but I think to my eye if the bumper bullets were a few inches lowered, and the tail lights were sunken in somewhat it would help to avoid a "pointy" tail end...

Have you tried turning the '57 chevy insert upside down?

I am really liking this thing...

actually i did turn it upside down,,,looks pretty cool that way too because it mimics the shape of the rear window,,,,,,,the taillight lenses will be sunken in about 1/2 inch,,just kinda laid them on top of the bumper bullets for the photo,,,ill see what the bullets look like a little lower,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thanks for the compliment on the car..

  17. You'd better plan on carrying a book of build pictures when you show this pup, because once the dash and steering wheel are changed, no one will believe that this was ever a shoebox...

Your ambition and creativity are, quite frankly, humbling.

thanks for taking the time to do that..

  20. My comment about the dash and steering wheel got me to thinking...a 1961-1963 Imperial dashboard (at least the driver's side) and rectangular steering wheel might lend itself to the concept custom look of the car...

I have been watching this build now for well since you decided to make that car into..... well who knows what it is. haha but GOOD WORK and keep it up glad to see that you think WAY out of the box.

And with all these diff. parts on the car it makes me think of that Johnny Cash song hahaha.

Jim--I'm waiting for you to start installing that Buick windshield.I chopped
a 57 Buick and know how much fun those wraparounds are.
Will be interesting what your plans are in this area.

i might be consulting you for some advice on chopping mine,,,,
i should be able to go and get it next week,,

  27. I don´t know Jim - I really like the back of the car with the slant section, but the way it transitions from the front is slightly disturbing to my eye. You need to make sure it doesn´t make some kind of banana shape overall, when what I guess you are looking for is actually more of a wedge shape.

    What you have...
