Way to go Jacin'. Stan told Ken @ Kolsom Tires you were going to go to Thompson - would you believe I was in Cleveland Friday and Saturday but family duties kept me away from the track. My bride and I are going to Goodguys Bowling Green next weekend. Any chance you will be there? Or more fun at TRP?
Congrats man! after seeing how much fun you were having and hanging out with Henry for a few years I have finally thrown the towel in. Ordered a couple sets of prints for FED and altereds. Will be pricing chromemoly this week. See you in about 7 years. By the way...the adrenaline shakes are cool as hell aren't they!
Hey Greg, that's too bad - would have been really cool to see you again. No plans for Bowling Green - we learned quite alot this weekend. Now we have to put what we learned to use and make a few more trinkets to make our time at the track a bit easier. All part of the fun - learning and seeing what you can do from it. Curly, I drug my feet on this - there's no reason to take as long as I did.Not to mention I spent ALOT of TIME making tools - planishing hammers - english wheel - etc. You have the advantage of being able to borrow this stuff. Heck between me and Dave and the rest of the fellas - what couldn't you get your hands on?? My biggest advice to you is to FIRST pick a ch***is YOU think you like - SECOND go talk to some people who have BUILT THAT style ch***is - ask tons of questions - write everything down. One of the MOST AMAZING things I have found about this entire experience is that when these "big time" guys find out that you're a little guy semi struggling in your garage more times than not they identify with you and go the extra mile to help you. Their advice is priceless as they have already been where you're going and now they've got experience out the wazoo - hard earned experience that is invaluable to us. NEXT go get a.) NHRA rule book and b.) SFI Ch***is regulation. "I built this car myself" is something I've said myself, but in reality is such a misleading statement - I got such good advice and technical help from so many people it's amazing. No one is an island. Curly the other advice I can tell you or ANYONE contemplating any such project......had I started out rationally ***essing what such an endeavor would cost me then I would have immediately realized this was financially out of my league. Simple enough - I couldn't afford to build a car like this and yet here I am. IMHO the way to approach such a project (for us who are lower on the funds) is to simply focus at one thing at a time - like your chromemoly (as you said)....step one - get chromemoly - check!!!!! next - swapmeets, ebay, networking , whatever it takes. Heck it's Monday morning and I am still feeling the effects of the adrenalin !!!!! AWESOME baerly covers it.
I had a similar experience this weekend in the Gold Digger, at MO-KAN. Leaving now on a business trip. Will post photos soon.
Thanks everybody! I gotta share just one more story... As I mentioned I have been working on this car for many years now. At work I often take Fridays off using my vacation days and have referred to it as taking a "dragster day". Every Tuesday morning my boss calls a meeting where we have to update a spreadsheet on what we accomplished the past week. I did my normal "updates" and in the very bottom column I wrote "9.92@123" I didn't expect very many guys to even notice it, but I thought it was funny. The boss calls our meeting to order and leads the meeting off with a YouTube video of my first p***. Now how cool was that??
The car needs some pinstripes. CONGRATULATIONS Jacin on your accomplishment. Are you running Alky, or gas ? When does the blower go on top ?
Ian, Thanks and you're RIGHT!! BTW - those wheels you sold me (virtually gave me) are PERFECT on the car - mucho mucho gracias. I'm running alky. The blower is still a tad away - right now we are having too much fun with our "peanut" motor.
UPDATE: We finally got the car back to the track for some more drivers education!! We haven't made any changes to the car yet - tuneup-wise. It's still a little on the fat side - and I am still being a little easy on the launch. However I did go a wee bit faster on each p***: 9.78 @ 125 9.76 @ 136 9.66 @ 137 It has routinely 60 footed at 1.40 - today I had a best of 1.38 But ALL of that PALED in comparison to the last run which was actually a "race". Guy in the other lane was running a '66 Mustang called the "SYNDICATE" that looked liked a super high end car that was timed warped from '68 - which it actually was!!! Guy has run this car for years and years - it was a MAJOR THRILL to look over in the other lane with such a COOL VINTAGE CAR over there - it was the most thrilling race I have ever had because of how cool THAT car is. Afterwards we HAD to share this with him - I sure hope I made his day because he sure made mine. Film at 11
Remingtonbox, I was never organized enough to have an actual buildup thread, but I have shots of every stage somewhere. Here's a REAL EARLY one
I talked with my buddy - he ***ured me that he GOT good video of my last run against the SYNDICATE car. It may take a day or 2 but I will get it from him as soon as I can - I am dying to see it myself!!!!
Kerry - just to add to your motivation. When I made the first p*** ever in my digger - the RUSH was like no other - I didn't think I could ever top THAT. I was wrong - looking over at that vintage mustang put a shiver in my spine - like I was given a glimpse of "1968 @ anydragstrip USA " it STILL gives me shivers today. Go Kerry go!! Go Kerry go!!!! You're gonna LOVE this ****..... I gawd-dam-gar-on-tee it!!!!!!
it is a thrill for the p***es. whether they are 60 ft runs or half track p***es. 25 oct I got my first round win. went 7.01/101 ,1/8 that was on a bad launch. but what a hoot.congrats, wish I could have been there.
Missed this first time around a couple weeks back (I was moving) but am glad it came back to the top - CONGRATS Man! Having made my first NFC p***es a year ago I can appreciate what you're feeling and am excited & happy for you. Good job That was an interesting picture you posted early on in your build. Pretty neat how you seemed to have gone about it..... Al in CT
So sweet. Got goosebumps reading the story, watching the video and seeing that ride pull up to the line. Nice.
Congrats Jacin. Sorry to miss that one too. I was out enjoying the Vette ride for the last time until spring. You Tube is great!
Here's some pics a friend took (hopefully I can get them to come up) And of course my FAVORITE -check out that WICKED COOL Mustang!!!!
