I'm going to a French and Italian car show today at Woodley park-I'll be wearing a HAMB hat if anybody wants to say hello-and it just hit me that some of the coolest old car guys that I've ever met were Brits. I think it's genetic for them to want to re-build some POS old British car that I'd send to the crusher, then drive the snot out of it! If you've ever read that imported mag Classic Car something or other, where they rebuild some total rust buckets, you'd see what I'm talking about in action! More than a few British guys I've met own/drive/restore something I'd never consider, like a Pugeot or a Rolls Royce or something. The other day on the way to work at 5 am I ran into some crazy Brit at 7/11 with driving gloves on, who was piloting a classic convertible RR with the top down in the morning cold! On Sunset Blvd, naturally, but that was still wierder than most So anyway they get my nod. Next runner up would be the Aussies, since they seem to have fewer spares and junkyards to go through but don't let that stop them(not to mention they're just crazy to begin with, god bless 'em!) What do y'all think? and especially outside the US guys, what say you?!?
Hey, the guys in the NE United States have been rebuilding rusted out junk forEVER! WIthout doubt the US is the most car-crazy nation ever...and could afford it both on the low and high ends. The rest of the world struggles with incredibly difficult government regulations, and we think we have it bad here (HAHA), and yet manage to do quite well with what they've got and can get shipped in from here. We're all in it together. Just hope that if we have to live in Obamaland after January 20, 2009 we'll still be able to do what we want to do when we want to do it.
The Republik of Kalifaaawniah is the most car crazy. Everyone is into, has been into or vill be into cars. 26 million cars in the L.A. Basin alone. Home of major design studios for car manufacturers from many nations and epicenter of Car Craziness. The Brits are just automotive masochists - has something to do with Brit stoicism and the weather - you know, their world famous "High humidity".
were pretty much up there, however you do have to wonder about the Brits and their pasion for open top cars..... always cracks me up us and the aussies don't even get the open top variants of the same car the pom's/europeans get (Vaux/Holden/Opel Astra for example) and there is a chance we might get more then a couple of days a year with the top down. Per capata of cool shit Kiwi's are up there and for the most parts is never been cheap or easy.
Brits will drop their top any time it is not raining or snowing - regardless of temperature. It used to be that Britain had the highest proportion of convertible cars to closed cars in the world.
Sweden in fact har the biggest US-car meeting (Big Power Meet in Västerås) and the most origial-restored 50's ameican cars in the world, so compared to its size, i would say Sweden.
That's how I always drove my convertible when I had one. As long as it was dry, the top was down. Otherwise you are wasting your money.
