Searched the normal sites but am a little puzzled.

    Block is a 57-66 283. this from the casting # 3849852

The engine ID code though is F0317D and thats it.

No other numbers. I ***ume this is a date code with no other info so was this a warranty engine perhaps?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

    Thanks
    GV

Single letter D is supposed to mean 1959 185 horse, two barrel and powerglide. I can't find the casting number. Hope that helps.

should be a casting date code on the back of the block. If not then you'll have trouble figuring out what year it is, the D code was used for 2bbl powerglide 283s from the late 50s to mid 60s. Although it doesn't really matter what year it is, considering what it is...

(F0317D means it was made in Flint on March 17th and that it's a 58-64 2bbl pg 283)

Thats interesting since it came out of a 1 ton farm truck with a 4 speed. I'm thinking replacement motor. It is a 2V engine though,

Trent the 'vair will probably get the 350 I picked up. The 283 kind of showed up cheap, came out of a 67 1 ton with 37,000 showin on the clock. Pedals looked like it could be actual, but it was cheap enough to make it worthwhile.

by 67 all the engine suffixes were two letters. All 67 truck 283s start with W.

(just in case you really really want to find an original motor for that farm truck)
