Looking at upgrading the back lighting on the "Turd" to make sure people see me stopping. I've looked at either replacing the bulbs with the LED replacement bulbs, or changing the whole lens ***embly out for a complete new LED unit (I have one cracked lens now so keeping the original isn't a big deal).

Can anyone shed any light (pun intented) on which would be a better way to go ???

    Thanks much !!!!

There's a thread on here about brighter incandescant bulbs. Search it. I think 3157 is brighter or 2157 maybe. Can't remember. Anything but LED.

What taillight are you running? The stock Pontiac??? Those LED bulbs only emit a dot through your lense the size of the bulb itself. If LED is the way you want to go use the sealed lense replacements. They have diffusers cast into the inside of them to break up the LED. A halogen 1157 is a more traditional way to get your fix!!!

To "slowandlow63" & "nirtofc" - thanks for the link to the the thread on differnet bulbs.

To "lowmaster" - it is the stock rectangular Pontiac lenses I've got. That was my concern whether or not the led buld would work with the original lenses - figured the sealed units would be designed for better light dispertion.

Guess I'll try alternate bulbs first before laying out the extra cash for the sealed units.

    Thanks guys !!!!

If you have gl*** taillight lenses you might consider making a new backing plate/housing so you can have two bulbs in each tailight.

i sell at work 1157 led bulbs that a 360 degree they work with your stock taillight lense and are way bright about 10.50 each

  8. Watch those 1157 Halogens if you are running an aftermarket bulb socket.

Had a "Made in Taiwan" socket in my new tail light ***embly on my old glide. Way down in the socket was a plastic round disc insulator and with those halogens running as hot as they do it softened the plastic and the wire end melted through the disc to the point where it was not making contact with the bulb contact and I had no light at all. What should have been a brighter tail lamp turned into no light at all. Cheap Chinese ****!

So I made my own insulator disc out of an old piece of fiber printed circuit board material and replaced the melted one. Been running halogen ever since.

Do they make LED lenses that fit your Pontiac directly, or do you have to modify something?

I've seen Meatball's, and they do work well!

Not sure if I posted on that original thead, or not. I'm running sequential Pontiac taillights under my A rollpan. Ron Francis sells a "Brite Bulb" that is considerably brighter, but won't harm plastic lenses and will fit in your current bulb sockets. I have been very pleased with them, though it wasn't cheap to do 7 bulbs!

I bought some of the United Pacific LED lights to replace the stockers with led bulbs in my 46 Ford, the UP's are FAR brighter than any others I have tried. Guys following me tell me all the time how bright they are. They were only $50 for the pair. Great deal IMO. Don't know if they make replacements for yours. Joe
