Projects 65 Skylark

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bufordtjustice, Nov 2, 2008.

  1. Hi guys,

I just bought this 65 skylark and was hoping some folks out there would have ideas and maybe photos of these done up. I am not sure what direction to go with it. It is pretty much a muscle car right now as it has a 455/turbo400 swap. Im not sure if I sure drop it or straight axle the bitch. Any photo-shops or pic ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    buford

PS...I know the steering wheel has to go!

Nice score! My driver's a '65 Special, everyone loves it 'cause it's different, re; not a Chevelle/Nova/Camaro.

I think Supremes with skinny whites would look good. I picked up a '65 Cutlass for cheap, just to have fun with it 'cause it to is different. Thinking about my extra supremes on it, just haven't decided yet. I like the look of that Skylark, WAY more than my Cutlass!!! Good lookin' car!! Ken

Doesn't look like it needs much. Hacking up a car that nice to make an overweight gasser would be a shame.

Big flake the roof/ astro supremes!!

  13. That car needs one thing to make it perfect. Driven!!! Well, the steering wheel does need yanked out and thrown as far as you can fling it. Supremes look nice on lots of stuff but, nothing looks quite as tough on a Buick as a nice set of wide, late model Buick wheels with fat, raised white letter tires. I love it the way it is. It's from the muscle car era but, it's not a muscle car it's a sleeper. A Skylark Gran Sport Would be a Muscle car, (I know, I'm splitting hairs, so sue me.) Hell, I'd even hook the air back up. Maybe power brakes assuming the 455 has a petty mild cam. Okay, maybe three things.

  14. Put a decent set of gears in it and you have the perfect sleeper, after tossing the steering wheel of course.

  15. Cool car- Always wanted one.

Sounds like you want to run it. If I was you, I'd go with a set of chrome OE steelies- you'd have some choices on width/backspacing-- so you can run cheater slicks in back if you want.

You can always dress the chromies up with spiders or bullet cones, or just go with a stripped down Super Stock look.

I had a 64 skylark I sold last year! They look great with bags, astros with pinner whites and bellflower tips! That is how mine was and it looked great. You don't have to cut a bunch to sit low(to the bumpstops in the rear and fender wells in the front). Cool car though, kind of regret selling mine but it was time.

dude I would drive that car as is.. or put a set of cragars on it and clean up the engine bay and have fun.... nice ride!

  18. Thanks for the replys guys! Steering wheel is obviously first to go...supremes sound nice...maybe sumpremes out front and oe steelies out back and lowered... I have talked myself out of gasser with your help. I only paid $3500 for it so I can't go wrong whatever I do. I'll post pics after I do something with it in the spring.
