.Hi, How hard would it be to put a big block Mopar in this coupe? I bought this car about a week ago for $1500 from a guy in Oregon that told me it had sat in a barn since 1966. I have a fresh 440 and trans that I've had sitting incase the engine in my Super Bee blew. It already has the deep rear sump oil pan. The frame is pretty heavy duty, straight and solid.I dont want to put a front clip on it.I dont want a tilt wheel, I dont want disc brakes but I wouldnt mind upgrading the factory system since the pedal is frozen and Im sure all the wheel cyls are shot. Anything interchangable?, I have no plans on painting it or doing anything cosmeticly, other than the windshield, fixing head and tailights and installing the grill. I have no problem though cutting out as much floor as is needed for the ******. The guy I bought it from told me that the rear end was a big Desoto but I know that its not going to hold up. What woud be a good choice for a transplant?I have a 10 bolt 3.9 posi out of a Camaro but I would really like to steer away from that. Maybe a B or C body 8.75? I am going to be doing all the work myself and on a shoestring budget($2500 total including car) My main question is: Motor mounts?? What to use? Also, If removed the inner fender wells would headers for a big block truck possibly fit since they come out, go down and back? Any Ideas or comment WELCOME Ive included a few pictures of my 1970 Super bee coupe(1 of 3,740 built) It was a 70s Drag racer, It has a pummped 440, maual 727 and 4.11s and Bobby Alison specials N-50-15s dated 9/10/73. And a few of my 1949 Doge Coronet that my son and I built last summer. It has a flat six,a visor off a Nash, Skirts.Caddy taillights, shaved and lowered (total cost including car $2150)

Does that still have a straight axle or IFS. I know they moved to IFS sometime around there. If it does have IFS then it's very similiar to my Dodge. I have a '47 Dodge that I shoved a 383/727 in. The only problem I had was the steering box, and the trans tunnel. I fabbed up a R & P setup similiar to the Fat Mans kit and I'm rebuilding the floor so it will get a new trans tunnel.

Sorry for the ****py camera phone pics. Also these pics don't show anything useful like the R&P setup. But they do show the bad *** 6x2 intake with 94s.

Very cool Dodge. Yes the coupe does have IFS.Did you have to push the engine back into the firewall? If so was that to clear the steering box? Im going to be taking the front end off of the car this weekend and start trying to figure out a game plan. Thanks

I have a sbc in my '38 Chrysler and barely had enough room lengthwise for it. In fact I'm running a pusher electric fan because there wasn't room for a puller or a mechanical fan. That's with a long water pump, but even with a short pump it would be a little too tight.

I also had to grind the edge off my distributor cap. Its that close to the firewall. I'm thinking your 440 is longer, so you'll be recessing your firewall.

I looked up the engine dimensions for a small block chev and it says that the Length from rear mounting surface to water pump pulley is 26.5 and the 440s length is 29. I guess that i will be removing a little more firewall than i thought at least the distibutor is in the front on BB Mopar.
    thanks

There is LOTS of room in these cars behind the firewall and in front of the dash. USE all you can get! I used a 2-1/2" recessed firewall for a SBC, and wish I would have gone deeper. Once you move that firewall back, you will have all kinds of room, and you will not even notice it in the interior.

The firewall was cut out when I got mine. It looked like the guy used a cold chisel and chainsaw to do it.

I fabbed up a r&p steering setup using a cavalier rack. I don't have any good pics, but you can PM and I can explain it to you and snap some pics if you like. That engine will not fit with the stock box if it's the size of mine (think football).

I am also bagging it so I had to put a new driveshaft tunnel in it anyways. so I figured I may as well mount the motor nice and high for looks and clearance of the steering. I had to mod the trans tunnel anyways so I figured I may as well put a new one in. I'm not done with the floor yet but I did get it all cut out. :)
