I had one of those coils back in the day. If I remember correctly they were made by Mallory and there was a finned aluminum cap that screwed into the top of the coil to protect the light bulb. I never did figure out what the light bulbs were for but it sure looked cool.

The coil is an ECHLIN, sold by NAPA back in the day.I have several NOS ones , told by the old rodders that they would leave the caps off at night for a little bling........Z.D.

Wow. That deserves to be preserved in pretty much the same manner as the Waco Kid.

That is a Kong dual coil distributor with the Echlin coils. It should have a cable attached to it for manual advance and retard. This is a very valuable ignition system.......Z.D.

I think the light bulbs act like resisters in the circuit to lower the voltage to below 6 volts for points
then maybe I am full of it too

that is very cool that it is mostly complete. I would love to find one like that and rebuild the mechanicals to get it on the road.

Nice to see these cars just as they were back then - gives us a great point of reference.
With all those original speed parts - I wonder how she performed back in the day...

This car is great! I love it when you find an original car with all the preriod parts, it is too often that the cars are re-done in the 70's with a whole bunch of hokey ****.

I bought a old track T roadster from Portland Oregon area that had a dual coil ignition with dual echlin coils like the ones in the pics. I looked up the part # and it was a 28or 29 studebaker distributor from what I remember it had been converted for a early flathead. I was told there was a old timer in portland named blackie blackburn that did this. That is a Neat A roadster there.

This guy used to specialize in Ford Distributors. I don't know if he still does or not. Used to work for Ed Stewart in San Diego ,years ago.
