Motion Pictures It's Cal Worthington And His Dog Spot!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Muttley, Nov 3, 2008.

  1. Before him was Ralph Williams. When I moved to SoCal in 69, I stayed with relatives. My uncle came home from work after we all went to bed and would watch TV late nights. I can remember from the other room, while going to sleep, Ralph Williams would come on and say, hi friends, Ralph Williams here. And my uncle, all by himself would yell, hi Ralph. I laughed my fucking ass off.

My wife grew up in Garden Grove in the 70's and 80's and her ears perked up when I was checking out the videos. She recognized it and asked me if I remembered those ads. I said, no, they didn't have those ads on TV back in Maryland. Bit far to travel to buy a car. :) I did watch CHIPS though.

Its wierd growing up in so-cal, you think "CHiPs" and "Emergency" are real cause you see the same stuff out your window and around town as you do on TV. Well at least to a 5 year old it does, :D. And yes I had to talk my way out of a spanking when I was thought he was saying pussy cow too , that cracks me up that I wasnt the only one.

Since we're going back in SoCal TV any oldtimers remember Dick Lane calling Wrestling and Roller Derby on KTLA ? Whoa, Nellie ! He was always plugging McLane Trim and Edgers on those shows. Great times in SoCal.

  9. They used to play clips of the old spots in his Houston ads.

A guy I used to go to junior college with named him band "pussy cow"...never seen them play though, but I heard its pretty funny.

I remember seeing a pretty well known rockabilly guy from the 50's play a show here in LA years ago, (cant remember which one right now) but he said he was the one who wrote the theme song. I want to say Glenn Glen or maybe Sid King??

Still does, and they still play those same fucking 30 year old clips trying to sell 2 year old used trucks. The old fart is still doing the voiceovers and green screens too but I don't know that he lives up here.

  14. This guy is a legend! He started out as a used car dealer in Oklahoma, moved to So. Cal. and opened a used car lot in Huntington Park. I don't remember where his first new car dealership was, or brand, but at his peak he had 28 dealerships. He had dealerships in Alaska, Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington and Texas. The last time I talked to his son, Rod, Cal was still living on his ranch in Central California. I haven't seen Cal since the '90's, he used to fly in in his Lear Jet and always had a couple of young hotties hanging on him, lol. His dog spot routines were started as a spoof of Ralph Williams! He is one of the nicest guy's you'll ever meet.

  15. Cal used to host a local ( Southern California) country music show back in the late '50's/ early '60's called Cal's Corral. They used to showcase local country singers.

Pussy Cow! Pussy Cow! Pussy Cow! Yeah, we sang that every Saturday Morning!!

Cal is a WWII Veteran, he flew B-17 Bombers over Germany!!

In San Diego we had McCune Chrysler-Plymouth and he would wear a cheesy Tux and drag out his dog. His tagline was "There is only one dog on this lot, and she is not for sale!"

    Go Cal!

Does anybody remember when Dick Lane used to do the broadcast from the Sunday Jalopy races at Ascot?

My wife and I were just talkin about her mom gettin mad at her cause she would be singin pussy cow... thats to funny. The thing I miss the most about saturday morning cartoons is the set up to watch saturday morning cartoons. My dad had a 78 chevy cab with a box on the back, I would open the door, put my foot on the wheel and crawl up into the box and get myself zingers, cup cakes sometimes bakery, chocolate milk or strawberry milk plus a few candy bars. Man the catering truck rocked!!! The kids loved playin baseball at my house cause afterward we would get a coke and a ramonas burrito. LOL

  20. I remember Grand pops buying a 66 dart 273 four speed car from his dodge dealership new, and my great uncle bought a new ford from his redondo ford dealership. I also remember seeing George Jones at his Cals coral club back ? 64/66.
