I was debating flames for my 50 shoebox when I get all the body work done and have it painted, then this past weekend I was bored and decided to sand down the old paint and primer that was on it after a layer it, guess what I found?? wish the pictures shows the flame ends better, but heck I was sanding away before I thought to take a pic and ended up killing half the flames wit hthe top layer of paint.
I thought so to,which is why I grabbed the camera, just wish I knew more about the car, or had a picture of what it used to look like..guy I got it off of said he was told at one time back in the late 50s early 60s,it was black with flames .. guess there was some truth to it..
I love flames, I love to paint them too, they are always original and no two are the same, here are some recent flame jobs I have done
Snuffed out, rained on, extinguished, stomped on, but probably not dead. I used to like painting them too, but never had them on any of my vehicles. Well, maybe one of em.
Traditional flames are forever. These real flames? Someone get me a fire extinguisher. I hate em. JMHO.
I was just going to say that myself....I planned on doing my panel delivery over the winter but had to let her go...I'll find something to do them on...lolol
Never! fads come and go. seems to cycle every 20 or so years, I keep the flames and it seems like every 20 or so years I'm cool again. I'm also a believer that you drive cars not trailer. and paint your car as best possible and drive your cars! when the paint gets chipped then add flames! I have 787,000 on my 75 blazers flame job. when I painted it, most people couldn't make up their mind. Whats worse the flames or the Moon disc's
OK so I can't figure out how to work the poll, DOH. I still like falmes but everything shouldn't be flammed any more than everything should be scalloped. I don't normally run 'em myself. Literally everything I have ever owned that has been flamed has caught fire at some point. So for me they go on the bad luck list. But that doesn't mean that they won't be good for you.
Never. As most have said, tastefully or the "old school" (tired of that term) are always nice. I think the realistic flame job type now popular is like having a yellow car, its nice to see but you dont want to own one. Some flame jobs stem from neccesity. My late friend Jack had a 40 coupe that was a nice gold, well you know how 40 hoods fit, or dont, dinged the fender tops, and at the time it was easier to shoot flames on the car. I thought they looked good, he hated it
Flames will never go out of style, i like traditional flames, ohio flames(yeah i said it), and crab claw flames. I cant get into the ones that look like the cars on fire, but i respect the work it takes to make em. They look pretty good on pro touring and muscle cars, but not hot rods.
What could be more traditional than flames? The more flamed hot rods there are in the world, the more they make the dump trucks and minis just look stupid.
i only like flames that were done back then, i found these under some cracked black paint that came off a farm truck / drag car hauler, looks like this truck had an interesting life. after i found the flames, i couldnt sand any more because they were just too cool. i decided to honor these flames and copy them over to my fenders in pencil to see how they look. soon my truck will be painted, and these flames will be on it. oh crap, post #666, posting about flames. talk about irony!
