I can not find any pictures of desoto's with the cowl vents in the top of the cowl whether in the plymouth desoto story or on the internet. I did find a picture of a 31 plymouth with the square back window. The only pictures I can find of dual cowl vents on any of the mopars dodge, desoto, plymouth, chrysler. Sedan, coupe, or roadster are on the chrysler's. Now I have been looking thru mostly factory photo's and chrysler was known to mix and match different lines of the era. So anything is possible. Here is a picture of my 31 chrysler roadster. To clarify a little the pricing in 31 was Chrysler, dodge, desoto, plymouth, Desoto didn't leap frog dodge until 33. There were high end dodge's in 31 but not desoto's.
This car is flat out bitchin! Did you build it? I wanna see more. I definitely was not expecting this...
Might be a silly question, but if you don't know what it is, how does one get the paperwork through to get a title or registered? By the way, that is one beautiful ride.
For comparison, this is a '32 Plymouth PB coupe we are building. It looks a little different than this one. Seems like your rear deck area is longer.
Defiantly not a 32 plymouth. A couple thing that might help solve this mystery is. There were two indented holes on each side of the cowl. I figure they were for some kind of driving light. On the rear of the car there were two holes with brackets that looked like they were for a continental kit. I will look to see if I have any pictures of it before it was chopped. I wish I knew the history of the body if that would help.
I cant help you on the identity issue but can say That is 1 awesome Coupe, I love it. Pleased it didnt get a ford or chevy motor but would have loved to see something MoPar, of course hemi would be ideal.
A Hemi would defiantly look good! I haven't ever come across one that is reasonably priced. I had the motor before I found the body. Plus I am a big fan of nailheads.
Yes they were for cowl lights after a little more looking at the pictures the dodge, desoto, plymouth ,and chrysler all had the cowl lights. Only a few rare models did not have the chrome, stainless strip going up over the cowl at the front like my roadster. The holes on the back were for a rear mounted spare or luggage rack. The 32 plymouth pb was the precursor to the 33 chrylser and desoto with only a few changes. Here is a picture of my 33 desoto.
That is a good looking coupe! Mine did come with the stainless strip on the cowl. I just haven't put it on yet. luckily it is in great shape. So the final verdict is 30 or 31 chrysler?
I just picked up a car that has 2 air cowls like this one but there is no raised portion... i also have no idea what it is, i was told it was a 30 dodge but it has an oval shaped rear window which is plymouth...
Very Bitchin' coupe! Before reading this entire thread, I looked through all my 20's-30's Chrysler, Dodge, Desoto & Plymouth books ... and finally {your suicide doors were throwing me for a loop} came to the same conclusion that 33mopower did ... it's a '31 Chrysler ... but not an Imperial. When I get a "Round-TUIT", I can scan some of the photos / illustrations and e-mail them to you. In the meantime, here's some pics of 1931 Chrysler CM Six 2 Door Business Coupes that I culled from the internet ... sans the rumbleseat decklids and square'r rear windows, these '31 CM6 coupes seem to be a match to your body (before chop & suicide doors ): Anyway ... dig your coupe ... Nailheads are cool ... but IMHO an early Hemi would really "complete it".
Well I was told mine is a '31 Dodge DC8. Where do you guys get parts for building these ? I found Yogi's has '32 on up fenders available, but will they fit/ or can they be made to fit a 31 ?
Color me confused. Your running the car on the road but don't know what it is, so how the hell did you title it? Not ragging on you but i've always found it helpful to know what i have before i title and drive it. I'm guessing you took a guess at it and titled it as such. Not the way i would have gone about it but a VERY COOL LOOKING CAR none the less.
