You got any pictures? I almost hit a deer in my daily driver. I still have the push bumper on the Comet and it's staying on as a deer push bumper. I'm new to deer country- any other tips? It seems like they're on the move at dusk. Sorry for being on-topic. Thanks, Kurt ps- Anybody use this one? http://www.911phone.net/Alert.htm
This big bastard tried running out in front of a custom Merc during Wisconsin gun season. Good thing i had overwatch on hwy23 or the full on custom would have needed new lead. I added my lead to old Bucky and the Merc was spared.......
I wasn't going to open this one- but this has to be the most surreal post I've ever seen! Holding the dead deer was "different"- but the one with the head and flesh biting is just crazy for this land-locked city boy! CRAZY!!!!! All we get is the occasional skunk in the road- nothing that BIG!
I saw at least 6 dead deer on the side of the highway on my trip up to PA this last weekend. A couple more on the way back. And some nice ones where a truck had got it, it got caught and drug, so the whole road was red. Didn't see any live ones though...
out here in la, the biggest thing i ever hit was a raccoon. maybe he should have taken his blindfold off when he saw me coming. kidding. i did feel bad about taking him out though. after a long day of work and school, driving over mulholland, i wasnt about to risk my own life (think driving off a cliff) to avoid it. i love animals, but i love human life too. im def not going to try to avoid hitting something if it means im putting my life in danger. also for clarification, the picture of the animal inside the hood of that bmw was a fox, not a deer.
Jim; I don't know about out there but with rabies what they are around here biting raw wild animal flesh may look Macho but is just plain stupid! And before anyone gives me grief I was raised with several of my native American ancestors customs concerning hunting which included thanking the spirit of the animal for supplying you with food and eating part of the fresh raw liver.Rabies was almost unheard of when i took part in that today overcrowding has it on the rise .The transfer of rabies and other diseases from wild to domestic animals is yet another reason for controlling the wild animal population.I was also raised to believe that though hunting is part of my life and has been for generations we do not throw it in other peoples faces like the bite and head shots do.While not ashamed of hunting the practice was kept out of public eye when possible like no dead deer hanging off your car going down the road
Me and my girlfriend hat a deer strike two years ago, 2am on our way from germany to venice. The cops came, shot the deer and said that only two weeks ago two people were killed on the same place by a similar sized one. Since then I´m driving slower at night, keeping a´n eye on the side of the road.
That dude bitting the raw meat is a little much..ya think. Dudes probabally gonna need a good worming.
No matter what you say, you'll never convince me that hunting is "cool"....
well, i have a firend with 5 kids...he fills 2 freezers every yr with meat he has hunted...feeds them most of the year! that to me is "cool" anywho, this thing started out about car wrecks, and turned into a fuckin train wreck!
had a customer a couple of years ago swerved off the road and side swiped a tree in her brand new grand prix, about 8k in damage, ya ready for this, to avoid hitting a friggin' squirrel! bet ya she won't do that again!
dude its two legged deer man! ditch the new babe and spend the $19.95 on the blow up doll with the fawn wig option!!
Well, before this thing gets closed down, I'd like to add a thought or two. The reason that we are on this board is that we are interested in "traditional" cars. Hot rods and customs right? These cars that we are consumed by are not new, they harken back to a simpler time. When a guy could build his own car with his own two hands using things that he had at his disposal. We carry on that tradition today. Granted, everything evolves and not all of the cars we see here are exact recreations of the "tradition", right? Well let's look at hunting now. I hunt for several reasons. One is to put meat on my table, the other is for the challenge of it. And yet another reason is that it is "traditional". You see where I'm going here. My dad hunted, his dad and his dad's dad all hunted. It was something that was done by them and for them and their family. It was not a necessity, but something that they enjoyed. Just like our cars. It is not necessary to survive, but we do it anyway. Now, things have evolved in hunting just like in hot rods, but there are still people in both pursuits that do it "like they used to". You know the car guys like that. The hunting guys like that use Longbows or flintlock muzzleloaders. What I'm saying is that if you think about it, these two seemingly different hobbies are connected in a very concrete fashion. Both having their roots in tradition. And we carry on that tradition because of the love of the hobby. There. Scott Scott
I believe we will see an increase in hunting with the bad economic times, think how much it would cost to go to walmart to fill a freezer full of meat. hell you don't even need a gun get a 70's land yacht and build a cage on the front of it,see a deer speed up. lol. late 70's early 80's caddys come to mind . mad max style.
Gotta jump in on this one! I retired in Jan. after 41 years at the same job; drove 13 to 25 miles to work one way (lived in several different places) 38 of that 41. Hit one deer and got hit twice. No damage; just real lucky. I learned to watch way ahead, both sides of the road, and at night watch the edge of the headlight coverage for movement. I was really motivated after I started ring a M/C, and had my fair share of close calls. Deer whistles don't work well around here, the wildlife are used to them and don't pay attention. My old Wrangler with the mud tires works real good; I think they hear the Sound of Death, 'cause they don't just look, they get the hell out of the way! I have run over most everything that is running loose and regret it most times. I'd rather kill it cleanly with a bullet! Zombiedude, you need a dose of rural reality. There's way too many deer because farming provides too well for them, yet the state tries to "manage" the herd for hunters, telling us that that the environment will support another 10,000. There are too few predators to really come close to controlling the herd. Breeder, I bet you read that story each time it was posted, didn't you! OMG! Perish the thought! I bet you're the guy that did it! OMG! LMAO!
they probably figure the sound of off road tires equals hunters which equals death. now if there was something that could recreate that sound.
well, i have a firend with 5 kids...he fills 2 freezers every yr with meat he has hunted...feeds them most of the year! that to me is "cool"
very very cool
very very cool
yep, with all these extra deer could feed a lot of people who would otherwise be hungry. we have a blessing all around us,and people complain about hunting. Wake UP!! people have to eat too.
